Re: What an atheist is, for Splendour
In response to MidGe's post where he questioned God's character...an interesting scholarly paper may help you understand God's true nature better by a scholar of philosophy and ethics: http://www.paulcopan.com/articles/pd...Narcissism.pdf

This is kind of a difficult thing to explain foal...no one is obligated to read the link...

Re: What an atheist is, for Splendour
if the article you linked to is understandable there's no reason why you can't either paraphrase the main points or quote a small excerpt that makes the point you think is relevant. don't be lazy. if you're not able to explain things yourself then don't get involved in these discussions.

Re: What an atheist is, for Splendour
I apologize foal...and I appreciate your great tactfulness...If you see this paper you will see it is so analytical and so in depth that paraphrasing it could take hours...and I might miss a key linkage...I think most of the guys on here are so bright they would rather have the complexity since its a topic of such a serious nature...

Re: What an atheist is, for Splendour
The link you posted has nothing to do with my post. It addresses whether an omnipotent etcc god could be humble.
I cannot reconcile an omnipotent, benevolent and intelligent being responsible for the suffering of humans and animals alike, entity. Whether there is a single cause, unlikely but for the discussion value I'll admit as possible, that entity would not be benevolent or intelligent or omnipotent. Thus would not meet your definition of god and is, surely from my viewpoint, not worthy of worship but simply of contempt. PS Don't send me PM about your quotes, I am capable of reading a thread. |

Re: What an atheist is, for Splendour
The link I posted shows the philosophical analysis on the nature of God...The writer of it explains how God himself is humble and as such sees things clearly...It looks like you did not read the article MidGe...

[ QUOTE ]
Thank you for taking the time to make a well thought out answer College Kid instead of the cryptic, unintelligible, polemic and off the cuff answers I have mostly been getting the past few days... [/ QUOTE ] If you are smart enough to use a ten dollar word like polemic (!) you should probably be able to comprehend most of the posts made in this forum. I mean, I had to look it up in my dictio-ma-nary and I still manage to get by around here. |

[ QUOTE ]
I guess we are just apples and oranges luckyme...You appear to care a lot more about science than I do...I care more about God...To me God is what made science possible... [/ QUOTE ] I think you shame any God worth worshipping, and it seems like the theists around here agree. What kind of God would prefer willful ignorance and refusal to use the wonderful intelligence He gave you? |
