Chelsea Piers has soccer leagues, but they are pretty expensive.
You might find pickup games in Central Park (northern part of park), otherwise the only pickup games I've ever found were in Queens/Brooklyn. If you like good restaurants it's definitely easier to get reservations during the summer, as NYC empties out to the beach every weekend.

Question for the OP. Is it a paid internship? I'm going to school now for accounting (not sure what kind yet) and was looking to get an internship in about 18 months. I don't see how I could do it though without quitting my full-time job. Are paid internships common?

And if he likes Long Island hell he might have a good time there.
