Re: RedSox fans were wearing the Red Sun?
I thought it was more offensive to the Japanese than Americans as it plays on a broad stereotype.

Re: RedSox fans were wearing the Red Sun?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] The war was fought against 1942-1945 Japan, not 2007 Japan. [/ QUOTE ] So it never happened? Ignorant! Lets see...more worried about getting our sports team name spelled wrong instead of dishonoring our country. Perhaps that is what is wrong with America these days. Yeah.. [/ QUOTE ] Were you one of the people who cried when Letters from Iwojima came out ? Did you think that Clint glorified the Japanese in there ? I have a question for you. Do you own anything by Sony ? Toyota, Honda, Canon, NTT.... on and on. This is indeed 2007, and Dice-k never faught at Pearl Harbor, and neither did his parents. His grand parents maybe. But at some point you have to accept that it's time to move on. And while you're listening to your ipod with Japanese components in it, you can cut the Sox fans a break. They meant no harm... |

Re: RedSox fans were wearing the Red Sun?
[ QUOTE ]
Cudos to the great Boston fans at the game last night and overall. But my grandfather who fought in the Pacific must be rolling in his grave right now at the sight of the moronic American fans wearing Japanese red sun bandannas. Did this bother anyone else? [/ QUOTE ] Doesn't bother me. I'm pretty sure the war ended 62 or so years ago. Plus the rising sun symbol does not have the same meaning as, say, the swastika, if for no other reason than it is a tradition Japanese symbol, whereas the swastika was only the symbol of the Nazi Party, not of Germany itself. I understand what you're asking, but I think you're looking for hidden meaning where there is none. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Can we lock this thread? [/ QUOTE ] Please. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] I don't think locking it is correct. It's a valid discussion worth talking about. But that doesn't make OP any less incorrect. |
