I would save more money. And take advantage of compound interest.

I'm 38, never saved a dime, and could care less. Life's too short. My buddy makes upper-middle class money. Has $150k-ish saved I think. He probably spends 2 hours a day fretting over money in some way or another.

believe me i'm generally the poster boy for "life's too short"

but a couple hundred a month isn't going change my life now and it will be a couple hundred thousand in 30 years. i mean i'm sure you understand how powerful compound interest is. when i look at those calculators and see what even $100 a month starting when i was 16 would turn into it makes me kind of sick. like passing on free EV in poker.

i don't worry about it or anything, i just feel kind of dumb when i really think about it.

that's because you're not taking into account inflation . Probably while overvaluing money now and undervaluing it to your younger self.

step aside

anyway, what i would do differently
-have sex with more college girls (i wasn't really trying at all, i was terrified, and the older, wiser me realizes that 19 was a good year for this)
-drink less, but have more fun when i actually drank
-get in on this online poker thing even sooner
-generally, have more fun, be more outlandish in public, and not take myself so seriously

off the top of my head.

yaaa i am taking into account inflation actually. and i was 16 when i got my first office job and i was making way more than i needed and had way more than $100/month to save if i had been smart about it.

there's obviously a utility to money and most people would get more utility out of their money by saving more than they do. when deciding to spend money no one ever makes the decision based on opportunity cost of the interest it would earn which is what they should do. it's retarded to save all your money and never enjoy anything but at the same time saying ignoring compound interest is crazy.

but humans are awful at evaluating long term consequences.

Focus more on school, less on alcohol. Gamble a lot on sporting events, start a retirement account.
