New Car: Tough Decision

If $17K is really your hard limit (and you don't want to finance part of the car), I think you should really expand your options a bit. A G35 is likely going to be out of your range unless it has a lot of miles. The problem with a used 350Z or RX8 is that these are the type of cars that people tend to tend drive pretty hard and I wouldn't want to own one unless I had back up money to pay for repairs and replacing wear-and-tear items (like the clutch) - this is especially true for the RX8, because you will really need to bring it to the dealer to have work done on it. Don't get me wrong - I love my RX8 - but I wouldn't want to own a high-mileage one with no warranty if I didn't have some cash to drop on it if needed.

What exactly are you looking for in a car? $17K is plenty to get a great car, but you will probably have to prioritize a bit.

Got something against BMWs? I absolutely love my 2001 330Ci and it is comparable to those cars you listed and definately in your price range. Haven't looked at them in awhile but you can probably get an '02 or '03 for 17k, don't take my word on that though.

I would avoid the RX-8. G35 seems really out of your price range, and the 350z isn't very practical...

I jsut want to plug pentagon federal credit union, they are [censored] great, Ive been in and out of the hospital for the last week or so, and didnt have a chance to deposit any money, I called to day (car payment is due), and they just said dont worry about it, you can skip this months, with no penalty etc, and catch up in may. I didnt do it, but their customer service and rates are [censored] great.

I have a 350Z and enjoy it a lot. However, I haven't checked out if you can get that for your price range. The oldest you will be able to get is a 2003.

I just don't see any of these cars being practical in this price range. You won't be able to find one in good shape for this price.

I absolutely love the 350z's, might be my next car, that yellow is damn awesome. I almost bought a 350z, but realized that I needed more seats and a car that was a little less rear wheel drive.

You guys are way off on the G35. There are 60 listings for 2003-2004 G35s with for under $18k with under 45,000 miles on them.

There were some with under 25k miles on them even. You may have to have one shipped depending on where you live, but they are a definitely available. You can get an extended warranty to cover any problems.

Also, as guids said, pentagon is AWESOME. I used them on his recommendation and have been very pleased.
