I'm playing $2.25 turbo SNGs at Tilt and lose -$0.29 a game on average despite being convinced that I'm getting better. Who knows, maybe I am.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's impossible to infer what those numbers mean without knowing the sample size.

[ QUOTE ]
But anyway, I was interested in online poker for the idea that you can make a lot in MTTs if you're good and play enough to hold the variance down a bit.

[/ QUOTE ]

It would be more accurate to state that a player should play at sufficiently small stakes relative to his (or her) bankroll and skill level to withstand variance.

[ QUOTE ]
"ok, for every blatant retard they catch there must be several smarter guys who get away" and suddenly I'm wondering how many first-place finishes are simply out of reach because there will be a cheater taking that spot.

[/ QUOTE ]

For various reasons, it is extremely unlikely that the type of alleged cheater discovered at Absolute is ubiquitous on other sites.

[ QUOTE ]
Yeah, my $2.25 turbo SNGs are fine, I'm sure cheaters may start low like that but the successful ones probably move on at least to $10 or so, low enough to be lost in the endless sea of anonymity but high enough to make some money.

[/ QUOTE ]

I can assure you that a cheater who could see hole cards would not bother with $10 SnGs.

[ QUOTE ]
You get 1000 people playing and there could well be a cheater or two in there and if a final table spot or two is reserved for cheaters here ... well ... it hurts your ev I'm sure. Enough to make me lose interest.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ouch, I hate to read this. Again, it is extremely unlikely that there are hole card cheaters on Stars or FTP. I've won the $162 buy-in nightly on Stars, and I'm sure nobody at the final table was cheating.

Please don't give up on the big MTTs and keep playing those satellites.

[ QUOTE ]
Anyway, sorry for so long a post, I just got real discouraged with this cheating story and thought you pros might be interested to hear that it really IS scaring some money away from online poker.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm going to make a suggestion that might get me flamed. Rather than worry about phantom cheaters, maybe you should identify and eliminate the leaks in your game? Maybe even become a winning player at the lower stakes?

Since you play SnGs, start reading the STT forum here. Learn concepts such as "ICM," optimal bubble play, and proper bankroll management.

Andy Beal has a superuser account, how else do you think he could amass a $Million dollar bankroll.

Speaking of a million dollars, I heard Brad 'Yukon' Booth bought into a recent High Stakes Poker show with a 'cool' million dollars...

i really doubt that player who could see whole cards would bother at low limit MMTs. yeah sure will get a few buddies playing over the phone or whatever but it will only help them if they are on the same table which doesnt happen until late in the tournament in big MMTs.
As for SNGs i still dont think it meters that much in the end with this sort of cheating. And i wouldnt say that this is the problem in online poker only. Friends can come up with set of secret messages and strategies to communicate and exchange hand information in the real life game too.

The thing with collusion is that the sites claim that they monitor tables for activity that appears to be collusion, such as two players who frequently play at the same time on the same table, coordinating play in the manner of those having the discussion which you claim you overheard. I don't know how diligent they have been in the past, but surely, in the wake of the AP scandal, they will be tightening the screws on such cheating. I hope.

Paragraphs please? Only the most dedicated people are going to read that, especially considering it's probably stupid.

yeah they monitor SURE....
but it just happened they didnt notice AP cheating.

just look at how obvious potripper cheating was, but they didnt notice anything and even denied it.
do you really think they will notice something like collusion?
