Re: Interesting B+M situation with verbal bets binding situation and K
i observed a hand at the bike where the turn action was bet 1k, call 1k (the call was with a 1k chip the bet was not), the river went check, and the other guy threw in a 5k chip. @ the bike the 1k and 5k chips are slightly larger in diameter then the other chips but clearly are a different color (grey 1k and marroon purpleish 5k) The guy instantly verbally said call and had about a 3k stack. The better immeadiately tables a set and the other mucked his overpair and thought he owed 1k to the pot. He was wearing glasses and thought it was the same 1k chip that was used to call the turn bet. These chips are also rarely used in this game. obv he gave his stack up and i think its the right rule.

lol karma...karma is something you invent in your head. It only comes true because you search for and expect it, attributing any thing bad that happens as "karma." This is called confirmation bias.
I think you allowed this situation to happen; you shouldn't be playing high chip denominations in such small games, they will only confuse and make you look like you are gonna angleshoot against tired or colorblind people. But since it was not intentional, take the money, you shouldn't feel bad. It was his mistake and the floor ruled in your favor. |

Re: Interesting B+M situation with verbal bets binding situation and K
The floor got it wrong. Here is an excerpt from one set of rules that covers this situation, your situation is a lot like one of the examples used to clarify the rule. Basically if there is a gross misunderstanding as to the amount of the bet the player can correct his action.
[ QUOTE ] Example: On the end, a player puts a $500 chip into the pot and says softly, “Four hundred.” The opponent puts a $100 chip into the pot and says, “Call.” The bettor immediately shows the hand. The dealer says, “He bet four hundred.” The caller says, “Oh, I thought he bet a hundred.” In this case, the recommended ruling normally is that the bettor had an obligation to not show the hand when the amount put into the pot was obviously short, and the “call” can be retracted. Note that the character of each player can be a factor. (Unfortunately, situations can arise at big-bet poker that are not so clear-cut as this.) [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Interesting B+M situation with verbal bets binding situation and K
The caller has made an honest mistake it seems, and due to gross misunderstanding (he is calling 5x more than he thought), should get a chance to pull his cll back.
Problem is both players showed before the river action was clear, so now pulling bets back is not an option. I like the way the floor, op and the misfotunate caller ahndled all this. One thing I am curious to know, how did the 500 chips get into the game, if it was through OP colouring up, then even if the house rules permit the chip to play, I dont like it being on the table. |

Re: Interesting B+M situation with verbal bets binding situation and K
I got the purple chip because some guy whom had been playing craps sat down at the table and donated 3-4 buy ins. He had bought in with a purple chip and floor had asked me to buy the chip out of the rack as a favor because it does throw off the count in this blind level.

Re: Interesting B+M situation with verbal bets binding situation and K
Why were cards turned up BEFORE the bet amount was settled upon. He put in $100, so it's clear he's either angle shooting or made an honest mistake.
Cards should remain face down until this is resolved. Not sure how the cards were turned face up, but you should have kept your cards down until $500 was moved to the pot, or a ruling was made on the verbal call. That said, I think you handled the situation very well and your solution was both fair, and EV+ since he stayed at the table. I'm just not sure how or why the cards were flipped up. |

Re: Interesting B+M situation with verbal bets binding situation and K
I'd be careful with tossing in a single chip without declaring the amount of the bet. In many of the AC casinos, for example, a single chip bet without a declaration is ruled either the minimum bet, or a call, whichever is applicable. I see this happen all the time when someone tosses in a green or black chip meaning to bet that amount or raise to that amount but the house calls it as the minumum amount.

[ QUOTE ]
Problem is both players showed before the river action was clear, so now pulling bets back is not an option. [/ QUOTE ] This is not correct. The player that puts in the $500 has an obligation to protect his until the bet has been called. Putting in $100 makes it clear that the other player does not understand the amount of the bet. |
