Are you trying to say that the game is not sold out already?

I'm sure it is now... at least I hope so. The tickets went on sale Monday morning.

This is pretty common for any large sporting event. I remember having the same problem in 98, but I'm not sure if they were turning back phone-ins(never tried). I do remember trying to buy tickets, and as soon as I told them I wasn't local.. click.

I'm not really sure if it's LAME or just good gamesmanship.

Iggy, you said

As I said, things like this can only lead to other teams following along. With enough complaints, the league could look into allocating tickets directly to the opposing team. That is not good for football and no one want that.

I'm not sure I agree that this would be bad. It's the norm in soccer worldwide and in college sports. I think it adds a lot to have a designated section for away supporters. Only issue I could see would be safety. While that would mean less mixed sections (now at Steeler away games pretty much every section looks like it has at least a few Steeler fans) which may be better but there would be more mob mentality issues in the away section and nearby.

I could easily see a lawsuit by a group of angry fans here... basing whether or not you get a ticket by your area code? Unbelievably discriminatory. Sure the teams are privately owned, but most of the monies to build the stadiums were publicly gained... What if you are a friggin Bronco fan living in Pittsburgh? I call shenanigans on crap practices like this and hope the league comes in and regulates ticket sales so it sucks for everybody.

Jared, I understand your point. While I agree that it seems reasonable to allocate some away tickets, it's just not how the NFL works. This is why the home team has the advantage.

Let me put this a different way. Which would you prefer :

1)500 Steeler fans from Pittsburgh call Denver, get tickets from the ticket office and make the trip.

2)5,000 tickets allocated to the Steelers for the game.

Don't think for a second if the Steelers were allocated tickets that they would return a single ticket.

These tickets are made public for a reason, so anyone can buy them. If you put a restriction on them by not accepting calls from a certain area, then they are no longer public tickets, they are home tickets. If Steeler fans in Pittsburgh have the same chance of calling as Denver fans, they won't get that many tickets. A policy change would just create even more Steeler fans in the stadium, and by the way these other teams are doing things, this is obviously something they don't want.

maybe you just don't get it, or maybe you're too caught up in your new soapbaox, so here you go one more time. The great vast majority of the tickets were sold through ticketmaster (internet and call-in system), and ticketmaster doesn't discriminate based on phone numbers. If you really wanted tickets but tried to call the broncos ticket office on sunday to get tickets, whether you are from colorado, pennsylvannia or elsewhere, you weren't thinking very clearly.

Are you serious? Why wouldn't someone who wants tickets to a football game in Denver call Denver for tickets? That just makes complete sense.

Obviously, a lot of people didn't know tickets were available online or by the phone to other ticketmaster distributers.

I know here in Pittsburgh, that doesn't happen. This is why people line up at the Heinz Field ticket office at the ass crack of dawn.

They are a private corporation, and they reserve the right to sell tickets to whomever they choose. Like someone else said, if you want your fans at the game, your team should have earned a better seed. Quit your crying.

This is a ridiculous statement. Would it be okay if ticket sales operators were instructed to hang up on anyone who sounded black? After all, each team is a private corporation and reserves the right to sell tickets to whomever they choose, right?

Clearly corporations have social obligations that supercede any absolute right to refuse service to whomever they dislike. The issue doesn't hinge on the absolute autonomy of corporations...it hinges on where the lines ought to be drawn. I can understand each team's point of view regarding the denial of sales to visiting fans...but to refuse all residents of Pittsburgh area codes out-of-hand seems sleazy and possibly discriminatory.

I don't like it, and hope the NFL will put a stop to it.

FWIW, I laid odds against the Steelers reaching the Super Bowl in a bet with a friend...so I make my statements with a clear personal interest in opposition to the Steelers.
