Re: JJ - i call PF and flop an overpair
i think you should probably decide whether or not you want to play for stacks on the flop. if you want to play for pot control, then don't raise there. this guy sounds pretty agro, so i probably just sit there and absorb bets most of the time.

[/ QUOTE ] Despite you reasons, I think w JJ its the better play to just 3-bet isolate. Even where they are 'squeeze happy', the are not going to squeeze everytime there is a raise and a call, and when they do you are shoving because u assume you are ahead which isnt always the case... hell you might end up getting it all in vs AQ or something. 3-betting lets you play HU in position with a hand that doesnt play well multiway, and lets you comfortably fold to a 4-bet from a player behind you. I think calling here will gewt you into trouble. |

Re: JJ - i call PF and flop an overpair
trust me, i understand ALL the reasons for 3 betting PF. i had very specific (and i realize debatable) resons not to, so didnt.
if i had 3bet then this hand would not need to be posted, would it? |

Anyways I wasnt calling you a moron for not 3-betting... but I guess it's important to spell out the reasons for others, or if I had happened to be wrong, so that I could learn something. |

Re: JJ - i call PF and flop an overpair
[ QUOTE ]
ok, i get tht i should be betting the turn. my biggest concern was whether or not we are playing for stacks on this board - which is why i ended up checking behind to control the pot [/ QUOTE ] You said yourself you think he'll shove draws/air on the turn, so bet/call IMO. |

Re: JJ - i call PF and flop an overpair
I would def bet turn, half or 3/4 pot. If called, IŽd check river.
But now when you check the turn, a riverbet is a must, bet as much you think he would call obv. |

Re: JJ - i call PF and flop an overpair
your play is contradictory. calling pre is fine, but once you raise the flop pot control is out the window.

Re: JJ - i call PF and flop an overpair
There's really no good reason to raise preflop. If he was 30/25 or even 30/20 it becomes mandatory though.
I don't hate the turn check as much as others. His range for raising utg and calling your flop raise should be fairly narrow but there are definitely some hands in there that he'll pay off with so I definitely like a bet quite a bit more. Now, I like around 35-40, calling a shove but not loving it. Basically, if he shows up with a better hand, I really like his river check and since you indicated he's sort of retarded I don't think he'd check this river with a hand that beats you very often. oh yeah, raising the flop in position IS a form of pot control. |

Re: JJ - i call PF and flop an overpair
I understand you trying to feel out this player, however I'd rather feel him out isolated heads up in position. I think thats the best way to feel out this player then just call and allow a multiway pot to frequently happen.
Sorry I only read opening info, not street info. |
