Hmm ... I'm 1/16th Native American (some tribe (which one I don't know) in Cass County, Missouri).

Perhaps it's time I do some digging to find the name (and tribe) of my Great, Great, Grandmother (on my mother side), who was full blood Native American and see if I can get some money!

Time magazine article

I read the above article a few years ago and found it quite interesting. Seems that most of the Native Americans get shafted on the casino deals, while a few (along with their backers) make out like bandits.

That article is 5 years old. Some of the tribes that I am familiar with have increased their payouts per member 10 fold since that time. Certainly, though, most tribes do not have casinos and there is no inter-tribal revenue sharing for the most part (this is actually a thorny inter-tribal political issue).

I hope you guys are joking about getting on the tribal roll. Some of the comments in this thread are not appropriate.

I've always wondered why the richer people in America (with bank accounts and investments) don't help out the other people. I think I read somewhere that teh poorest areas of the USA are places where people don't have any money.

Why would they help them out? The Cherokee nation is a sovereign nation. Why would they give a crap about some other sovereign nation in Montana?

Before whites came, Native American tribes fought each other. There are many tribes that were bitter enemies with other tribes. Some of that still exists today and may be a reason tribes do not share with each other.

While some Native American tribes have prospered with Indian Gaming there are indeed many reservations that are very very poor. I live on the edge of a reservation and I can guarantee that I have never seen anything anywhere else in the United States that comes close to some of the horrible conditions on some Indian reservations.

And Yes, Some of the comments are insensitive, rude and inappropriate.

Did someone say appropriate? What does that word mean?
