Yeah, resentment is a bear. It makes it feel as if you are slogging uphill for no damn good reason, which makes the effort seem twice as hard. But, look -- I bet there are many other classes you have taken and passed with flying colors that you won't remember either. You just didn't notice because those subjects came more easily to you. College is a game, and part of the game is to prove you can jump through the hoops to get the reward at the end -- in your case, the terrific union job with the three months' vacation every year and the sabbatical every decade or so. Eyes on the prize. You can and will play this game to win. I'm friends with several teachers and it is well worth a little sacrifice now to have a most enviable future later.

You got to focus on what IS that exciting if you're going to motivate yourself. Believe me, all that free vacation time is pure gold. One of my teacher friends spent an entire year on sabbatical in Italy in 2004.

I just entered my senior year in college and I am having the same problems... I dont want to go to any classes or do any work I just want to be done with it.

However, if you dont pass it will never end so suck it up and dont let all your hard work go to waste.

Also I had a teacher freshman year that taught calculus 1 which I struggled with greatly.

I had taken basic math in high school in which the teacher was the football coach and well yeah I remember watching movies in class DAILY. I was kicked out of honors since I didn't do the homework.. 50+ problems was excessive when you have to solve for x.. I mean when I can solve 2x+1=5 I can also solve 2x+2=5...

I ended up getting the highest grade in my freshman class by skipping everyday but the tests. I would skip class and go to the library and do problems over and over and I understood despite the fact that I was constantly lost when I went to class... BASICALLY just do the work

Options:
1) Pay off professor $10K (not really)
2) Hire one of the genius kids as a tutor?
3) Just start going to all classes and put in an extra effort to read the text, study the given homework answers (ugh)

Winner.

So, does the latest online gambling legislation help your motivation any?

a little. I think the legislation is just a bump in the road though, not a road block.

Once Party figures out how much money they will loose by passing on the US market, they will have string of Harvard lawers opening up loopholes.

Short answer - Invite Ted Kennedy to a party with hookers, an open bar and all-you-can-eat shrimp. Tell him he can come back as many times as he likes, but not until internet poker is legal.

Three days later, internet poker will be legal.

And that's how you get things done in Washington!

Do you have a decent textbook? If, as seems, this is a first course in mathematical analysis, you should look into getting "Principles of Mathematical Analysis", by Walter Rudin. Search for it on amazon or some other place. It's a great book and would probably provide you with some more explanation, as well as give you another way to learn the material.

Ultimately, though, there's no way to learn to write prrofs without, well, practicing writing proofs. It can be frustrating at first, but that's part of the process. Good luck!

thanks for the rec, but even though my textbook sucks, I am immeasurably unmotivated (as a super senior), and buying/studying an independant book seems out of the realm of possibility.
