Re: How many kisses?
Not even in a business meeting? I would think that would border on rudeness, if not just very very awkward in the business world/boardroom.

Re: How many kisses?
You can see why i have not moved up very high in the corporate structure.
I mean I will shake hands, I just don't enjoy it and don't typically initiate the shaking. Kissing would be awkward. |

I don't even like the handshake. [/ QUOTE ] Neither do I, but you have to do it. Generally I'd be happy avoiding much touching until on a pound it like a hammer basis. |

Re: How many kisses?
In Mexico it is common to greet women with a kiss on the cheek, even when meeting someone, i.e "hi, I am Enrique" kiss "nice to meet you".
When I started High School I was very bothered by this and I would only do a handshake. Some girls thought I was rude because of it. Now I alternate between handshake and kiss when meeting new people depending on my mood (although I do greet my Mexican female friends with a kiss). In my family we do two kisses (with my sister, my mom and my father) because my mother is Spaniard and the custom over there is 2 kisses instead of one. |

Re: How many kisses?
Parisians kiss twice.
The further south you go in France, the more kisses. I think 4 kisses is considered "hickish" by most parisians. |

Re: How many kisses?
Also, I think all this shows is how we Americans are so phobic about physical contact. We are so into the idea of our personal space.
I actually enjoy the "bise," find it kind of charming. And if you are in the country/culture where it is used, it feels totally natural. |

I am surprised that so many despise the handshake.

Re: How many kisses?
This has no place in the office. The only part of my body I expect to have kissed at work is my tuchus, and that only figuratively.
This is also why I prefer to wear a beard. If the thought enters someone's mind like, "Hey, I think I'll smooch that fellow for hosting such a great meeting," they need only see the woodland creatures marauding through my whiskers to reconsider. |

I am surprised that so many despise the handshake. -McGee [/ QUOTE ] Me too. I can see why some people might like the extra "warmth" or whatever of a kiss, but that doesn't make a handshake something cold or inadequate. Inadequate for what? Greeting strangers? Business contacts? Even friends? I can be adequately enthused without engaging any mucous membranes, and I can't say I wish there were more being kissed in my life by anyone I'm not willing to share a crotch with. |
