With the scenario as written I bet nothing, because stranger is angle-shooting. [/ QUOTE ] As written, you know for a fact that the guy will pay and that it's a fair toss. The question isn't about the real-world implications of the scenario. |

This poll would be much better if you asked what percentage of their money people would bet.

I bet $0 because I run bad. This is a losing proposition for me.

Interesting question. Advantage gamblers should be taking this bet at 10% of their bankroll (using the Kelly Criterion). Note this should be a percentage of your bankroll, not your net worth.
However, for the non-gamblers at your other board the one-time nature of the offer might make it sound like a bad deal. Non-able gamblers don't have bankrolls for betting, and won't be able to find other bets after this offer passes. Even though it is a 10% edge, they'll be risking their entire bet. When you compare it to investing the same amount in a CD for a year for 4.5% risk-free, or in an index fund for about 8% historically with virtually no chance of losing their entire capital, the 10% edge might not seem like such a great deal for any significant sum. |

I might do $10 if I feel like gambling but I'm not much of a gambler I'd rather just play 200 NL max and win money

Yeah, but that would be rude. Also, I'm getting some crazy low answers from the other message board, from people I know have at least a little money. I think it's amazing how differently poker players and everyone else think of money. [/ QUOTE ] ![]() |

[/ QUOTE ] well not to be a nit or anything, but the edge is 5%. the EV on a 10K flip is -10k*.5+11k*.5=500$ |
