Some women who have breast cancer and have to get a mastectomy (boob cut off) end up getting implants so that they can feel normal again.

Some women have grossly different size boobs.


This is like .01% of implants though. The rest just didn't get hugged enough as a child.


Also, the "people with implants are more likely to commit suicide" is duh. Lots of people with low self-esteem get them, obviously thats the cause of the correlation. I imagine that lots of women think "as soon as I get implants, I'll be happy and confident. That's the one thing holding me back. Then they get them, still feel like [censored], and spiral even further into depression.

Yeah, there was a recent study about this. The reporting on it sort of makes it sound like boob jobs make women more depressed; it seems pretty obvious to me that depressed, insecure women are more likely to get a boob job in the first place.

Also, some do it to just look more normal. A girl with a sub-A chest getting a boob job to a solid B cup isn't that hard to understand. Not sure that insecure is the right word to use when describing this.

4_2 - agree - it's not quite "insecure". Smaller girls (there is "sub-A"? A is pretty small...) probably just want to wear strapless dresses, whatever, without feeling too self conscious. This doesn't necessarily mean the girl has crazy low self-esteem, imo.

In general, I am not a fan of implants.

Regarding the esteem thing, I don't even know how attracted I could be to the type of person who would even want to get such an operation unless there was a more legit reason for it such as being abnormally small or they're different sizes or something.

I'm generalizing about "the type" of person who would want to do this but it all just feels so fake and silly.
Then again, I like it when my GF gets all dressed up in nice clothes instead of just wearing sweats around the house all day.
I'm sure many of the gals getting the implants could make an argument that doing something like this to their body really isn't that different from putting make-up on their face or doing whatever to their hair.
