maybe Paul can get some traction by pointing out that he was against it from the start...

No, the American people don't like people who are smarter than them and able to realize things they don't. There's a reason the Bush "I'm so dumb!" act works.

[/ QUOTE ]

Certainly an easy statement to support with evidence?

I think many Americans, even the died-in-the-wool Bush-ites are realizing how bad this war is and want it over so maybe Paul can get some traction by pointing out that he was against it from the start...

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know if being against it from the start is really helping. I think many Americans were okay with it in the beginning and just now are becoming fed up with it. So I'm not realy sure if this scores him any points.

For example, nobody wants to hear that about 4000 American servicemen and women died for no good reason.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oil is a good reason. It's also the most important reason why we need to stay the course.

[/ QUOTE ]

You do realize that they will sell us that oil if we're in Iraq or not, right?

We'd be paying a premium if we never went over there. It's +EV to just send some troops and control the distribution.

Ron Paul's problem is that he's telling people the truth and it's an unpleasant truth that a lot of people don't want to admit to.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not true, Ron Paul's problem, like candidates like him, is the WAY he conveys the message, not the message itself. It's all about PR, you have to each you message into their minds inch by inch, don't just ram it home.

Certain people are very charismatic and can do this well, others have someone do it for them (Bush>Rove), and others suck at it.

Imagine if he actually got the nomination and he asked people not to leave debt behind for our children.

The American public has low time preference. They prefer low time preference politicians.
