Re: plasma tv q
Overall I think the majority of people have said that they like the plasma better.
It's been covered ad nauseum, but here are the basic pros and cons: Plasmas: + have better contrast, better black levels, and better color saturation - can get some burn-in, but less of an issue LCDs: + lower power usage, slimmer and lighter + bright whites, slightly higher resolution + if you want 1080p, lcd's do this for MUCH cheaper - some ghosting issues - blacks aren't very black I got my parents a Samsung LCD over christmas, but mostly because I found a great deal on fatwallet for it. Your best bet is to goto an actual store and see what YOU like best. Tips: - make sure to watch both HD (either bluray or HD broadcast), a DVD, and standard def TV on it. These will all look VERY VERY different. In general, standard def tv looks like ass on all HD tv's that I've seen except CRT's. If you only want a small screen, a 32" sony HD crt tube might not be an awful choice. |

Re: plasma tv q
As has been stated over and over again, burn in is not an issue with newer gen plasmas.
He of the fantastic hair, Yeah, I think you can get a 37 inch for cheaper. |

Which aren't as static and aren't on screen for extended time periods when compared to side-letterbox or whatever it's called. I think when people say it's not an issue, they are assuming stretched 4:3 content which most people do but is retarded. You could be right and it might be a non-issue for all circumstances. |

Re: plasma tv q
I was deciding between that one and the 42" Vizio when I got mine. I went with the Vizio from CostCo.
My friend has that Panny and seems happy with it. |

Re: plasma tv q
Definitely check out Costco to see what their selection is. Checking the web site (stores may have a different selection) they have quite a few 42" sets for just about the same price as the one you have linked. Also, if you don't need to hang it on the wall, look into DLP sets.

Re: plasma tv q
that's the other part of this, I am going to be hanging this thing on a brick wall. I guess there are mounting kits and stuff available, I'll have to make sure whatever I get is mountable.

Re: plasma tv q
turnip,
You can def get a 37" for much cheaper. I got the 42" from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...076330-6346468 shipped to my house for $1269 total. This was in December, and around Thanksgiving and Christmas Circuit City had that TV on sale for $1199 (w/ free delivery). At the time they even had a free installation offer going on, but I don't think you can count on seeing that. However, I bet you can get the 42" for about the same price as me if you aren't in a super big hurry. If you search for +panasonic +plasma, you'll get a bunch of threads where people discuss this stuff and prices. A bunch of good discussion in the Black Friday thread I posted. FWIW, I did a ton of research into LCDs and Plasmas in this size/price range including reading all the audio/videophile forums and stuff before deciding on this TV. |

Re: plasma tv q
Any chance that the 50" will come down to around $1500 within the next 4-6 months?

turnip:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controll...&sku=424213 $1,299.00 ($1085 for the 37") + I think $85 delivered to your house for the 42". sam: http://www.nextag.com/Panasonic-TH-5...e-history-html I'm no expert, but looking at this and current prices, sure seems like you could get that for $1500 in a few months. |
