LGB does not cover a lot of probability and math but really focuses on position and aggression strategies. There is some math, but nowhere near a Sklanksy book. Gordon also uses a slightly different approach to the math which might confuse you if you are knew to it all.

Theory of Poker is the staple. It will give you tons of math and a deep understanding of odds. The Gordon books are fun to read, as they are a little more laid back, but informative. Read them all. I keep getting free books through stars FPP points and have gone through about 10 books now. Many of them more than once.

[ QUOTE ] Dan Harrington has several books out. Should I buy them. I am not sure if my next purchace will be one(or all) of his or something by T J Cloutier. What do you guys think. [/ QUOTE ]Buy, read and re-read the Harringtons. Forget the Cloutiers. Seriously. [/ QUOTE ] Gordon's advice is pretty solid and is the one if you're only in the mood for a quick read. He does give some concise guidelines on bet-sizing which seems to a common beginner issue. Harrington's are the best if you're really going knuckle down and study, but they are somewhat more applicable to tournament rather than cash play. I really like the hand quizzes and the way he throws curves as the hand proceeds. I.e., "you should raise but instead you just call" and then he presents the consequences of the misstep on the next card. The problem with "Theory of Poker" is that it's not hold-em-specific which is a little distracting to beginners and doesn't discuss hand selection, NL bet-sizing, short-handed, etc. |

The LGB & LBB can be applied to cash and tournament. The LBB is actually seperated into chapters by Cash, Tournament, Sit n Go, Final Table play, etc.
