I wasn't at the table so I have no idea how villain got his stack. When I see someone with a stack like that, often times it's a villain who cc's with garbage looking to hit and getting paid off a lot when he does. This may not be that kind of villain but I think you are toast on this river after the c/r. I bet he had some lame J8 type hand. BTW, I'm not sure why we even bet this river. What is calling us? A case ace type hand? Just my two cents and it's easy to offer a river check line given the subsequent action. But given that you did bet, it certainly feels like he hit his straight and not a lower set.
