Re: High Schooler Dresses up as KKK member for Halloween
[ QUOTE ]
Their families argued that if an african-american student can wear a Malcolm X t-shirt or something referring to Black Power then whites should be able to do the equivilent with White Power or Klan costumes. [/ QUOTE ] The KKK and Malcolm X are clearly equivalent. |

Re: High Schooler Dresses up as KKK member for Halloween
I don't get the uproar at all. Costumes are supposed to be scary, right? What's scarier than a Klansman? Also, I see costumes every year of:
Hitler/Nazis Osama bin Laden Leatherface Unabomber etc. etc. Now they're suddenly getting offended? |

I see nothing wrong with this, honestly. well "nothing" might be inaccurate as it's obviously in poor taste, but it is still completely reasonable imo.

Re: High Schooler Dresses up as KKK member for Halloween

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I would have thought that only a KKK member would be offended by a KKK costume. Like, the point is to make fun of the KKK, no? [/ QUOTE ] even so, it's still a terrible idea to wear something like that to school. I mean, the school will obviously assume the worst, and many people will find it offensive.... [/ QUOTE ] Yeah I'm the wrong one to speak on this subject. I don't think that rules should be made by stupid people, and I think it takes a good deal of stupidity to be offended by any costume. [/ QUOTE ] would you feel the same way if a cross had been burned on your yard? |

whether you are personally offended, i think it's silly to say that no one should be offended by this b/c it's just a costume.

If I later saw someone dressed up as whoever burned anything in my yard I'd have to be an idiot to equate the two incidents and be at all disturbed by it. The more I think about it, the less I think of people who are able to be offended. |
