Gotta be Carragher if Neville doesn't play, Hargreaves was awful there in the warm up game, he's not good enough to be the waterboy, and Sven, if you have to take off Gerrard/Lampard let's see Carrick yes?

G Neville is by far the most underated player in the England team and it will be a downright disaster if he misses the rest of the tournament.

England's support of its soccer team reminds me of my support for Maryland's men's basketball team ...

"Drive to the basket, Caner-Medley! ... Drive! What are ... A FALLAWAY JUMPER FROM 22 FEET?!?! HJKKJGDSGFEWBFVYDS!!!! OK, get back on defense. Get ba ... GET BACK ON ... WHAT THE HELL IBEKWE YOU AREN'T EVEN RUNNING OMG FAST-BREAK DUNK YOU GUYS SUCK HJHJXDVGHDUSVB!!!"

P.S. I love England fans. Passion rocks.

Equador is a pretty dream 2nd round matchup. If all the 'likely' teams go through we're probably going to end up against the weakest.

I have a slightly different opinion on taking Walcott, but you have to put aside the taking the 5th striker argument, I think we could have left a midfielder behind and had Defoe as the 5th striker.

The reason to take Walcott though is that if he truely is talent everyone makes him out to be Him and Rooney are likely to be the main England strikers for the next 2-3 world cups and next two euros, Owen has 1 Euro and possibly 1 WC left max. Having him integrated into the squad and seeing what its all about, getting the press attention etc etc are all going to mature him and mean that for Euro 2008 its all familiar for him, so the likely pressure on him hopefully will affect him less.

In a 23 man squad where in reality you are going to use 15-17 players I think you can afford one wild card, if the rest of the squad is balanced.

Whilst I think Defoe should probably have been in the squad he aint the future for England, neither is Bent, Johnson, Fowler or whoever else people were talking about.

Daveymck, I think Walcott's selection had a lot more to do with deflecting some of the media attention off of Rooney as much as it had to do with getting him some experience for the future. Sven has nothing to gain by planting some seeds for the future

Bingo, same reason Ronaldo was on WC 94.
