I haven't bothered with it because I want to update every time (PS software replaces the images) and I've been too lazy to make a batch file to run the update, quit the program, copy the image and then run the GUI. Should be fairly easy to do and I'd imagine someone here has such a batch file.

if someone could write this i would love them forever.

I did that but PokerStars is too smart for us. Everytime I open it, it makes me install a new update, and it reinstalls the original file.

I sent this to KingMedicine via PM. You can launch PokerStars from two different .exe files. One is named "PokerStars.exe" and one is named "PokerStarsUpdate.exe." One of these two files checks for updates, downloads updates, and overwrites any image mods you may be using; one of them doesn't. I will leave it to you to figure out which one is which.

You have two alternatives: (1) keep the image not only in the Stars default folder but somewhere else so you can just swap it back in anytime it gets overwritten; or (2) do number one and also use the non-updating .exe to launch Stars (using the updating .exe every few weeks just to keep current).

[/ QUOTE ]

Just to be clear -- I just ran the update exe 'cause I hadn't done it in a while. Before I did, I copied the table image and my cards images to my desktop from my existing Stars GX folder; ran the update; moved the table image and card images back into the Gx folder (overwriting); voila - updated .exe and retained current image mods in about 3 minutes. I launch Stars from the non-updating .exe when I play.

my stars card mod contains a batch file that lets you stay current with auto-updates and also keep custom cards and a custom background.

name the "stock" file bgnorm.jpg and the modified file bg.jpg in the GX folder and run this.

move Gx\bg.jpg Gx\bg.jpg.bak
move Gx\bgnorm.jpg Gx\bg.jpg
PokerStarsUpdate.exe
move Gx\bg.jpg Gx\bgnorm.jpg
move Gx\bg.jpg.bak Gx\bg.jpg

I even changed the icon to the Stars icon and put it on my menu list. If Stars even does an update, as long as they don't overwrite the whole folder, my mod stays intact running this batch.

Do I get a ring sweetie? Is this really forever? And most importantly - do you have any of those cool True poker condoms?

nice mod.

what color are the spades? are they black like the background and hard to read? how about a screengrab with some spades on board.

Any chance you can come up with a version of the batch file for those of us running Stars using Wine on Linux? I'd love to be able to keep your mod installed for more than one session at a time.

asdf I cannot get this to work... I extracted the files to the pstars directory(while pstars was closed). Ran the .bat file. Opened pstars, and it asked me to install the new software. What am I doing wrong?

Go ahead and install the new software. It shouldn't change the cards.
