Re: 30r ftp v.s. SCTrojans
Do you c-bet alot? The first thing that came to my mind is if he called with a hand like KJ, or QJ, and knew you would c-bet almost any flop. He could have a very strong hand like AJ, or AK, or AQ, however, I don't think he would have re-raised you there because flop is a rainbow. I have never played with him before but I am thinking he has got a weak hand or a hand that you can push him off. I think his check-raise symbolizes weakness as opposed to strength and would probably come over the top.

I can understand why in this case hero did not want to go to the felt and get shown AJ though as well. |

Even if he is making a move, we're pretty deep, and there's no way we're calling the second barrel on the turn (I hope, please no one advocate just calling off our whole stack here.) If villain has decided to make a move (and it's a pretty common move) the turn bet is required. 3-betting the flop is even worse, I mean it's pretty much all-in if we go, and that's just horrible spew. Also, more likely than a bluff or middle pair, he flopped a big hand, say with AJ, and puts you on AQ AK type hand, and wants to get you to stack off the whole 8k on this hand. However, he has to put in a raise somewhere to get all the money in by the river without totally spooking you, and the flop is the best place for that since it doesn't indicate as much strength as doing it later. Also, his line at least picks up a cbet from you if you have nothing, so it's a very good way to play a big hand in this spot. I mean think about it, you call a PFR in middle position from the blinds and the flop comes A high, and you don't have one. Is your first thought really that it's a good spot to make a move? I'm usually thinking A hands are a big part of his range and there's no reason for me to get cute here. Also, if he doesn't have an A, he may just check it back to me fearing a c/r. |
