[ QUOTE ]
Here is what I don't understand about David. He always goes out of his way to be sympathetic to the Jews, and it seems to me like it is because he sees their views as more compassionate regarding eternity. And yet, all his arguments against Christianity/religion in general are along the lines of, "I consider that a big underdog to have actually occurred." So who cares whose views are more compassionate? (Your perception of what is compassionate is quite subjective anyway.) Personally, I am only concerned with what is true. [/ QUOTE ] There are many reasons to be concerned about things other than what is precisely true. Maybe you know this but were just trying to spread some tough love on religious folks. Also wanted to add that I found the notion of the rabbi referring to notready's place in heaven and that he is praying for him to be kind of awkward. Raised a reformed jew, I remember no specific belief in the afterlife. We believed god is essentially good and would reward those who upheld his laws. No details were ever mentioned and certainly I was never threatened with hell. Everything was more about what you are doing in this life year to year. However, I am very far removed from tradional jewish thought. -JP |

"Thanks for the sentiment, but I don't feel tormented."
... "Crazy Jews." Then NotReady goes home and thinks about whether or not he feels "tormented" and compelled to spread the word of God. He wonders if, one day, he will really think that nonbelievers cannot be in heaven. |

What do you think he will say? [/ QUOTE ] I would say: You have far more compassion and concern for people than me. By God's law you are far superior to me. The New Testament says that God has not rejected His people, that He is a God of love, righeousness and justice. Beyond that I can't see. And as for me, I hope all can be saved. |

[/ QUOTE ] From the perspective of someone who doesn't think ANY of it is true, I am a much bigger fan of the compassionate religions. I would hope the reasons for this would be obvious. |

[ QUOTE ] What do you think he will say? [/ QUOTE ] I would say: You have far more compassion and concern for people than me. By God's law you are far superior to me, even though you will still burn in Hell for eternity for not accepting Jesus as your savior. The New Testament says that God has not rejected His people, that He is a God of love, righeousness and justice. Beyond that I can't see. And as for me, I hope all can be saved; and by "hope" I mean I don't really care, since they are all predestined either way. [/ QUOTE ] |

And as for me, I hope all can be saved. [/ QUOTE ] This is a non-sequitur for a Calvinist. Perhaps you meant,"I WISH all could be saved". |
