Wait, you actually feel sorry for a child molester? Deportation is not even close to what he deserves in my book.

He was born in Iran but came to the United States when he was 9, according to court documents.

Wow, the immigration system is very efficient. A decade later they take action, sounds like someone is settling a grudge.

This is BS, no matter what the actual circumstances of the misdemeanor were. He was found guilty by the court, and he served time in jail and probation. THAT'S IT, it's over. You can't go arrest him over a decade later and say "oh wait, now we wanna deport you for that crime you were already punished for."

This is what everyone is misunderstanding. The US has MANDATORY deportation laws for immigrants who have been convicted of crimes, even if they were non-violent (although "sexual battery" could be considered a violent crime). Immigrants have been deported for lesser crimes, like shoplifting.

Whether this legislation is right or not is a matter of opinion. But the US has every right, and duty, to enforce the legislation it passes. Just because Sheiky was arrested, convicted and put in jail doesn't shield him from the mandatory deportation laws.

Also, how are we so sure that it was "just" statutory rape? Even if it were, how would you feel if you were the father of a 15 year old daughter, and she had sex, consensual or unconsensual, with a man Sheiky's age?

And I agree with a previous poster, there are few things, if any, more disgusting IMO than child molestation.

Oh and BTW, IMO moral turpitude is usually things like forgery, fraud, embezzlement etc...

Having a really good attorney won't do much good in immigration court.

Appearantly no one is reading this post because the point addressed continues to be flung about without a response.

No, it sounds like a politician or someone at DHS is trying to get their name in the headlines to advertise how their so "tough on crime" in order to advance their career. Probably using some draconian law that was passed following 9/11.

Not really, TT. This is quite common. The scenario that I am most familiar with is when a non-US citizen leaves the country for a short trip and has his passport and green card seized when he re-enters through U.S. Customs. He/she is then given a notice to appear in immigration court and it's usually because of an old conviction from some time ago. In any event, Sheikhan has a very serious problem. Hope he has a very good lawyer.
