Re: 2006 Season\'s most surprising stat (baseball -- specific player)
Papelbon's ERA (0.92), won't get any Cy Young votes with Johan et al, but his ERA was consistently around 0.50 this season. An amazing story... and not likely to happen again since he's probably going to be starting next season. His ERA was 0.00 on May 1st, 0.24 on June 24th (albeit in about 38 innings) and still sub-0.50 as late as August 4th. He only hit 1.00 once, in late August mid-Massacre.

Re: 2006 Season\'s most surprising stat (baseball -- specific player)
I know it's been said but what a ridiculous year for rookie pitching... Verlander winning lots, Liriano dominating for a few months, Papelbon lights out, Anibal Sanchez throwing a no-hitter. Also more great rookie pitchers on Marlins and Twins... I think I read somewhere that the number of games won by rookie starters this season set a new record? I'll try to look this up sometime tonight, stuck here working on a Friday night.

Bonds once again leads the majors in OBP. Pretty incredible. [/ QUOTE ] Why? Doesn't he automatically get two walks per game? |

Carlos Beltran 41 home runs. Never thought he'd hit that many playing half his games in Shea.
