[ QUOTE ] Check/raise or check/call a shove on the flop. [/ QUOTE ] The short version of what I just said, guess I could've just gone with that. I'm so long-winded, lol. Thanks for all the advice so far, very helpful. In hindsight I also agree that the open push was horrible no matter what.

Really take some time and answer them. Then think about TFGoose's post and how you could have made more money on this hand. Seriously, if you actually do this, you will learn something about poker that 95%+ of people don't understand. |

I will. I'm not posting an answer now because I want to give it full thought later when I'm not rushed.

Steve's questions, Gooses explainations and Sherms answer. I think this is the wack on the head I need every month to get me back on track. It wasn't my question, but thanks. It helps.
PS Goose please keep giving the long explantion. The why helps it stick. |

Cornell is right of course. Think through those questions he asked and try to figure out your own answers. As for the hand, without a strong read I probably go broke here too... but I do it differently. I think I'd call the min-raise preflop as you did, but check the flop. After re-raising you, he's probably expecting you to do this anyway, and he is expected to bet no matter what his holding. He will bet 88-QQ, AQ+ here just as often as KK or AA I think (and his range, if you ask me, probably isn't much broader than that unless he's very aggressive). If you open push, he may muck some of those hands and you miss out on those chips. But if you let him bet (or push) first, then you can get paid off with your better hand. Yeah, he may already have you destroyed with KK or AA (which, from the sound of things, he did), but with the stack sizes and blinds showing here, I don't think you're getting away from your hand on this board. So you might as well maximize value for the times you are ahead. --TFGoose [/ QUOTE ] What about KJ4 or AT7 board? Do you still C/R or C/F? Maybe lead? Plus, if an unknown villain minraise you from MP after you raised UTG 3BB, do you still put him on 88+? I usually put villain on TT as min pp for doing this unless I've seen villain do some crazy stuff in the past. |

Re: QQ utg 50/50 ftp
Stop and gos are mostly done when we want to increase our FE. In this case, we're never folding out AA/KK, and in general we don't want to increase FE with a hand like QQ. So your goal should be to figure out the best way to get it in. All you did by SnGing here is give villian a chance to fold AK/AQ
Push PF. Standard. |

You should always be trying to put your opponents on a range of hands. The more you know about a player the more specific your range should become but you should at least be thinking something like a minraise pf means he probably has (22, 33, 79s, 44 in that order) of course what I typed is not a good approximation, I would like you to come up with what you think he might have had. [/ QUOTE ] Sorry for the delay in the response, I really haven't had time to get to this. His range for me is a loose guesstimation. I say jj+/aqs+. [ QUOTE ] After you do that answer these questions: Which of those hands did you want to fold to your flop push? which of those hands did you want to call? Do you think that your bet would be effective in achieving that goal? [/ QUOTE ] I would really like AA/KK to fold here to my flop push (not gonna happen). I'd like all others to call, making flush draw with overs pay for the call. I do not think my bet would have been effective in achieving either of these goals except maybe getting a call from aks. As said already I should have either checked to him or lead out with a 2/3rd pot bet. [ QUOTE ] What do you think that he would think that you had after your EP raise and then flop open shove? [/ QUOTE ] He likely thinks I have missed over cards with a possible flushdraw or an overpair that I dont want a chaser on. I really appreciate the advice on this post, I thoroughly enjoyed thinking through this hand. |

Re: QQ utg 50/50 ftp
Some thoughts...
a 2/3 pot bet will probably be read by villain as you commiting yourself to the pot. Another strategy instead of check-call or check-raise is to bet an amount villain think he has fold equity against if he pushes, aka the feeler bet with your stack size... and then call his push. |
