Re: Actors/Actresses Who Hit the Next Level, But Shouldn\'t Have
Keanu is fantastic.
Coffee..good point I sometimes wonder if Costner learned that from watching Steve McQueen |

Giovanni Ribisi, not that he's "big star" but the fact that he still gets job offers amazes me.
Ben Affleck, nothing against him really, kinda liked him in some K. Smith movies but the guy can't act. |

I would have put Reese Witherspoon here a few days ago, but her June Carter in Walk The Line was perfect.

Gwyneth Paltrow [/ QUOTE ] I was going to say Gwyneth myself but since I've only seen her in two things I decided maybe I should withhold judgment. Also, not a big fan of Halle Berry but I always hear people rave about her so I figured I just hadn't seen her best performances. And what's with nominating Julia Roberts? Come on, she's good. I love Julia Roberts. |

Julia Roberts would have been out of her depth in Happy Days

Re: Actors/Actresses Who Hit the Next Level, But Shouldn\'t Have
Halle Berry's best acting job was probably her crying on the Oscars. Other than that non of her main performances have been impressive.
Tom Hanks, even though i liked his Forrest Gump act. He's not terrible all the time, i just never expected him to be this big. |

His thing has always been likeability, but other than that, I find his performances pretty flat and uninteresting. I sure never get the, Wow, what is going to do next? feeling i get when watching good actors. I'm near dead certain Hanks will do nothing to surprise me or add any extra levels of depth to a character. |

Re: Actors/Actresses Who Hit the Next Level, But Shouldn\'t Have
You guys aren't naming actors or actresses who shouldn't have hit the next level - you're naming mostly one-dimensional actors and actresses. Harrison Ford is where he's at because he can play that cocky/insecure guy who you want to see get beat up but eventually win in the end better than anyone. Same with Bruce Willis, he's that average guy but you don't want to mess with him, or else you'll wind up in an action movie. To me this doesn't make them bad actors or undeserving of their success, because they are the best at doing what they do.
I think the only people on the lists so far that really, really suck as actors are Keanu and maybe Affleck. Not that they haven't had good roles, but Keanu especially is just a big doofus, and Affleck has been coasting on Damon's coattails forever. |
