Isn't there some newer version of it that never made it to the US? One where you can "grow" the stack mid-combo?

I never played anything but the original, and either would be awesome. It would make the SNES obsolete.

one can only hope, as i'm about to shell out 90 bucks or so for it (so much because I'm the nerd that needs the instructions and box to come with it).

My completely uneducated guess would be that is not the case. PM is probably to tide us over until that release. Which is fine with me, because this game seriously rocks. And I have to believe that Metroid and/or Super Metroid will be the big releases in August given Prime 3's status.
