Re: Trip report/ask me about time in maximum (and minimum) security prison
[ QUOTE ]
I only met one violent criminal there, and his crime was manslaughter for killing the guy that raped his daughter in a fit of rage. (He probably would've gotten off had he not driven from Mississippi to Chicago to do the deed.) [/ QUOTE ] I wonder what this guy was thinking as he drove to Chicago. |

My Turn, Awesome post. Will California ever get out of prison? [/ QUOTE ] No [ QUOTE ] If he does, would you know about it? [/ QUOTE ] No [ QUOTE ] Would he even remember you? [/ QUOTE ] No I'd be like #145,378 of his top list of people he held a grudge against. I was just a run of the mill affair for this guy. Almost a weekly basis thing. [ QUOTE ] When you were in solitary, how often did a guard check on you? [/ QUOTE ] every 4 hours or so, they did a visual check through the door window. [ QUOTE ] Did you ever talk to one on a personal level or was it all gaurd/prisoner talk? [/ QUOTE ] a few times I talked personal level with guys who supervised outside grounds. We weren't really threats, so they could let their guard down a bit. |

Re: Trip report/ask me about time in maximum (and minimum) security pr
I grew up about 10 miles from Ina. Actually attended junior college right across I-57.
Is Ina populated by mostly 'punks' or is it just the place where the punks are sent, along with other inmates? As in, if you're a punk you go to Ina, but being in Ina doesn't necessarily mean you're a punk? |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Also, do you know California's name so we can do an inmate search? [/ QUOTE ] yes, and no. I know it. He's still in there. I find it best to withold that piece of information. [/ QUOTE ] Cool. I respect that. Do you still worry about some form of retribution from him or do you mostly figure that he has enough enemies not to spend time worrying about you? Great thread man. [/ QUOTE ] I have an irrational fear about him. Plus, I'm worried about what I can say publicly and not. I highly doubt he has spent one minute of the last 5 years devoted to thinking about me at all. I'm very small beans in his grand scheme of things. |

I am glad that you lived through it. Did you get your CPA or does your criminal record preclude it? I would agree that the drug laws are messed up. [/ QUOTE ] I am inelgible to be a CPA due solely to my criminal record. If I ever get cleared, the first thing I plan on doing is completing the CPA. |

[/ QUOTE ] "if you're a punk you go to Ina, but being in Ina doesn't necessarily mean you're a punk" is the answer It is an odd juxtaposition that on one side of I-57 is a junior college and on the other is a prison. It's also odd that Big Muddy is the exact same design as Galesburg/East Moline/Danville. |

I am inelgible to be a CPA due solely to my criminal record. If I ever get cleared, the first thing I plan on doing is completing the CPA. [/ QUOTE ] I for one, am outraged by this (and I am a CPA). CPA licenses are given by each state. I haven't done a search, but does a felony conviction eliminate you from every state? I got my license in FL and now live in PA. I keep my license active in Florida because it is easier than transferring it and all the states have reciprocity anyway. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree that convicted felons should be more thoroughly screened, but an outright ban seems a bit harsh. CPA firms are hiring white collar criminals as consultants to help them provide services to client s who suspect fraud, so it's a bit hypocritical to not a mechanism whereby a felon may receive a license. There are plenty of CPAs in jail who weren't felons when they passed the exam. |
