Re: Quotes/aphorisms that have actually helped you in life
Life is the art of drawing without an eraser.
I don't remember who said this, but its so true. It helps me think over every important decision I make, because alot of the time there is no going back in time to change that decision. |

Re: Quotes/aphorisms that have actually helped you in life
This used to be somewhere in my high school when I was there some 10 years ago. Now looking back man does it ring true. If not for the path I took through college and the actions I took in respect to the things I did, I would not be the person I am today. So many people graduate high school, go to college, graduate college, head off to work and never take time to take the scenic route. I sometimes regret some of the things I did like drugs but I know that because of the path I took I was able to change my mind, my world view, erase all the hereditary prejudices laid upon me, and become the person I am today. So many people said I was wasting my potential and now they are the ones with only a bachelors and just like everyone else in this world with no thought of their own and still rooted in all their common sensical knowledge / hereditary prejudices. Thanks to the path I took to where I am today I have broke myself from the mold that so many tried to form around me and man does it feel good. There is nothing like being able to think without outside influence, to honestly use your intelligence without regards to what others think is right.

Re: Quotes/aphorisms that have actually helped you in life
I'm not sure if this quote helped me, but [censored] that. The imagery is so vivid it hurts.
[ QUOTE ] 296 Alas, what are you after all, my written and painted thoughts! It was not long ago that you were still so colorful, young, and malicious, full of thorns and secret spices---you made me sneeze and laugh---and now? You have already taken off your novelty, and some of you are ready, I fear, to become truths: they already look so immortal, so pathetically decent, so dull! And has it ever been different? What things do we copy, writing and painting, we mandarins with Chinese brushes, we immortalizers of things that can be written---what are the only things we are able to paint? Alas, always only what is on the verge of withering and losing its fragrance! Alas, always only storms that are passing, exhausted, and feelings that are autumnal and yellow! Alas, always only birds that grew weary of flying and flew astray and now can be caught by hand---by our hand! We immortalize what cannot live and fly much longer---only weary and mellow things! And it is only your afternoon, you, my written and painted thoughts, for which alone I have colors, many colors perhaps, many motley caresses and fifty yellows and browns and greens and reds: but nobody will guess from that how you looked in your morning, you sudden sparks and wonders of my solitude, you my old beloved---wicked thoughts! - F.W. Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil (trans. Walter Kaufmann) [/ QUOTE ] |

"Never interrupt your enemies while they are making a mistake." Napoleon
While this is usually meant for the battlefield, I think it is similar to "don't tap the tank!!!". |
