J, I was being critical of myself, not you-- I saw how you came into the thread. Given the unlikelihood of action, enthusiasm for action seems a bit lame. I don't know how to arrive at a bet where two non fools like their ends, or a complete fool doesn't get scared off. I'm certainly open to putting something together for your SF trip, maybe we can mull it over and come here when we have something. I know I can do the push-up and bw bench press challenges barring injury, so no need to bother with them (unless you don't believe me!).
I'd love to hear about other specific fitness challenges where folks already have a bet in place-- I'm thinking a general volunteer to get paid to do X-- not good. |

Here is a good challenge that I think would be very difficult to do but technically possible.
Maintain a full polyphasic sleep schedule (Uberman - up to 6 30 minute naps each day) for 100 days (or longer). Obviously verification would be a bit of a problem and I think this would be tremendously difficult for anyone with a career but I've seen crazier prop bets. |

Some more I am interested in: 1v1 basketball vs pretty much any girl in the world (my highest level bball played is an intramural college league, will give odds if best you can find is D1 bench player or something). I have never played with a D1 level or higher girl that I know of. 2v2 Ultimate frisbee against any girls in the world with a guy on my team who just started playing competitive ultimate this year, like me. 1v1 soccer vs really tough (not world class, maybe close) girls (highest played soccer level is jv highschool) Some "only fast food (+vitamins)" bets with weight or body fat and/or sport performance stipulations, where you can only eat fast food for a period of time and have to still maintain a certain level of fitness. [/ QUOTE ] In basketball, I know some girls that would be HUGE favorites against a typical college intramural player. If the money is big, i could get her involved. Ultimate frisbee i don't know of the girls personally, but i'm guessing that there are girls that oculd beat you out there. Soccer i don't know much about. |

I was offered 40k to go 18 months with half of my head shaved and the other half no shaving allowed but passed. [/ QUOTE ] Did they require you to repeatedly shave the one half? If not, I'd take this. Two years w/o talking seems impossible. I want to bet someone like Gavin Smith that he can't go a whole day without talking in a poker tournament. I'd think you would be able to find someone to take the McDonald's bet at like 20-1 on 10 or 20K. Walking from Seattle to Miami actually sounds kinda cool. What kind of restrictions would be placed on the bet? Would probably take about four months. |

[/ QUOTE ] i got permission from the mrs. do to the half shave job for 40k, that seems really simple if you aren't vain and/or trying to get laid by someone you don't know yet, lol. as far as the mickey d's job, i think i would do it for 20 to 1 on a 20k bet, just because i could maintain my other livelyhood easily and the only drawback (other than the work) would be limited time to travel. shaniac, don't you think the walking from seattle to miami would probably cost you money if you had to do it for less than a really big number?? All--
I'm in Henderson right now and can do some sort of walking bet that doesn't take more than two days or so. (Example: I'd be willing to do Green Valley Ranch station casino to the Bellagio and back in a day.) --Nate |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not saying I want to do it, but it sounds like it would be a cool experience, anyway. Walk for 8-10 hours a day, find a hotel for the night, sleep, repeat. If I really thought I could do it in 4 months' time, I'm not sure the number would have to be THAT big. |

Nate,
"I'm in Henderson right now and can do some sort of walking bet that doesn't take more than two days or so. (Example: I'd be willing to do Green Valley Ranch station casino to the Bellagio and back in a day.)" Route You are proposing a prop bet for you walking 22 miles? |

ED--
Yes. Or more, or less, as we negotiate. The GVR/Bellagio thing was just an example of the format. If you think it seems absurdly easy or hard, I'm all ears. --Nate |
