Josem or anyone else,

How do I compare a processor's performance to another.
Like how does a P4 2.8 w/ HT compare to like a 1.6 core duo 2.

Is my P4(above) with 3 gb ram plenty for Vista?

Google "cpu benchmarks"

anandtech.com has a chunk of stuff.

From Google:

System requirements include:
* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
* 512 MB of system memory
(plus other requirements, but these are the relevant bits)

I know the system requirements, just wondered if I would have issues. Should I just stay with XP?

The benchmark is like 800 to 420 from a base Core duo 2 vs a P4 2.8. Seems pretty significant, is it?

Unless you have a pressing reason to upgrade (ie, you have some cool new hardware that won't work with XP, or you need a particular feature from vista) you should stay with the 91% (or whatever) of XP users that haven't upgraded.

I have a desktop that runs XP and a laptop that runs vista; i only have vista on the laptop 'cause that's what it came with.

TBH, it never occurred to me to upgrade the desktop to XP; I just don't see a pressing case for it, especially given that you're likely to be using AHK and poker software with non-perfect support/upgrade arrangements. ie, everything works on XP, so don't risk it by changing to vista.

Yes. a Core2Duo will probably be a very big improvement, depending on what you're going to be using it for.

IIRC, 500-600. Possibly his 3rd WPT TV appearance and 4th final table. Sick.

When did Vista get released?

I never trust a new release of Windows for at least a year, and more like a year and a half. Let someone else test their software.

Not only that, but you need to give some applications you wish to use time to catch up.
