This is a great thread, thanks 'trying2learn' for your help this subject has always interested me. I wanted to chime in with a few questions myself if you dont mind.

a) I just went to Vegas for the first time and stayed at the sahara for price reasons, didnt play tons of table games more partying, but I'd venture to guess it wouldnt take much for a comp there as it's older and a low roller place.

b) Aladdin is where I played, and I have heard/seen pretty lax comps there. my friend used to play a lot of craps and theyd give him a suite (not sure his avg bet) and he stopped playing basically and still gets one, though his play is combined w/a guy whos like $50/hand player since they always share the suite. will place combine 2 peoples action in a situation like that? I play $20-25 hand for 4hrs a day over a weekend, at a place like aladdin which i happen to like, what approx would that get me at a mid range place, reduced room, upgrade, meals, not sure? do you know if aladdin is keeping their homey small casino structure despite being taken over by the planet hollywood name?

3) lastly re: card counting which obviously nobody wants a part of on your end and which im not great at but understand a little. if i vary my bets with the count will they notice it since theyre standing at table behind me rating me? once they rate you once, you just give your hand to the table every time, if you keep coming ouy even or slightly ahead will they eventually not welcome your action as much? a lot of questions and ramblings frm me, but I've never hustled comps out there b/c have been too busy partying, and I dont care about staying at nice hotels, but appreciate your answers and this thread in general is helpful

What I'd like to know is are odds bets in craps considered towards your comps? If you bet $10 on the pass line and back it up with $40, does the house consider you a $10 player or a $50 player?

by earlier remarks in this thread, since the odds bet has no casino edge, you do not get rated on this bet. In the example and with no other bets on the table, you are a $10 player.

However do NOT apply at too many casinos in a short space of time, this is akin to applying for numerous credit cards in quick succession.

Someone I know made this mistake once, applying to several casinos under the same ownership.

BAD

It's called being a "rounder".

Even if the casinos are owned by the same company, the credit lines are generally separate.

Never apply for more than two casinos within a 14 day period.

ALSO: marker credit is NOT like credit card credit. The marker is considered a BANK CHECK, and if you default on it you can go to jail the same as if you write a bad check (and Nevada laws in this regard are strict).

Not true. My MGM credit line is good at bellagio and mirage and i assume all other MGM properties.

Okay, I have a question. I've stayed at Bellagio extensively during the last two years. (~300 days total). I rarely gamble in the pit, so I've never had anything comped, save for buffet when I made dinner break. I did take 5k to bj on a couple of occassions, and a similar amount to roulette. Before my last trip (for the wpt championship series), I called a casino host there and asked if she could do anything for me. She said 'No problem, when are you coming in and for how long?'. I told her my dates and a duration of 8 nights. She said they will comp room for the 8 nights, and didn't tell me to play a certain amount or any conditions. I checked in, all great, loved the short 'Invited guest' line, great room, much better view than the ones I had been getting for $149/weekday and $229/weekend via the poker rate. I left my credit card info with the front desk, for incidentals. After 6 days, without any warning from my host, my card was charged for the entire duration, at full rate (about twice the poker rate). When I called front desk about it, they said that only the host can reverse the charge. The host refused to do so, reproaching that I didn't gamble. I found this practice very unethical, because during the initial convo, when I asked what I could get, based on my track record with them, she didn't mention a certain amount I would have to gamble. Also, I can understand them calling and saying that they can no longer comp if I don't play, but that's not what they did. They charged my card retroactively, for the whole duration, including nights that they had already comped. What do you reccommend as my recourse? Ty.

Yep, sounds like you have grounds to be perturbed. Firstly, what did you sign when you checked in? Hotels typically make you sign a card with the room rate and that acts as the signature-on-file so they can bill your credit card. So if all they've got is a signed rate card that says $0.00/day, they're absolutely SOL. On the other hand, if you signed something that said the rate would be "$0.00 *" and the * down below says "based on qualifying casino action during the stay; if patron fails to qualify for the reduced rate, the rate will be $280/night" then you may be SOL. And if somehow you signed something that flat out said the rate will be $280/night, you get to throw yourself on the mercy of those involved and try to negotiate a reduced rate.

Beyond that, sounds like you need to move past the host and find her manager.
