It's fun responding to posts before you finish reading threads. Then you get to say crap people said hours ago.

There are no good American cars. Seriously. I bought a Mustang in 2001 (ah, to be 21 again) and it's fun to drive ... when there's not a drop of rain or a flake of snow on the ground. When there is, hello, death wish.

Honda FTW. My wife's Accord rocks.

It's been a while since I read the thread, maybe I got the location mixed up. If so, sorry.

By the way, I was not knocking Sam Adams; their Boston Lager is the only beer of theirs I really don't like. Their seasonals and other specialty beers are outstanding.

I didn't become an alcoholic until I started drinking Boston Lager. I think all beers have a bad aftertaste, so it doesn't bother me. Boston Lager just tastes so good to me, and I can drink it with pretty much anything.

I think Yuengling is good for the price. However, that may only be because it's such a standard in Pittsburgh that I've had a lot of them.

Sam Adams I think is in the middle. Their beers tend to be significantly better than Budweiser and the other macros but not as good as the micros. They are priced pretty well though as the cost is in the middle as well and closer to Bud etc.

For micros I'm an Oregon homer. Rogue is pretty solid but there are better microbrewers in Oregon that for whatever reason don't get "exported" as much. Having said that their Hazelnut Brown might be my favorite beer. Pyramid is also quite good although the main beer of theirs that I can find here is Apricot Weizen which isn't very manly but it is actually good. MacTarnahan is great, especially the amber. My favorite brewer is Deschutes. Black Butte Porter is amazing and Mirror Pond is quite good.

The nice thing about being in Oregon, especially Portland, is that there are tons of microbreweries that are fantastic. Many are so small that they have a pub where they serve their beer and you can buy it directly from them but not at the grocery store. I love Cask beers and they are fantastic at these pubs. If you live there there is no reason whatsoever to ever drink a macro.

Outside Oregon I really like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

Beer and roads. Maybe I should comment.

EDIT: Ok I will...
1) calling any road with a speed limit a freeway is pretty funny (unless they used to be frenchways before)
2) A quick check reveals I have the following beer in stock (which makes it an official recommendation):
Duvel
Quack
Chimay Bleu
Chimay Rouge
Of the beer I don't have in stock I recommend:
Budweiser (the Czech one, not the bad copy)
Pilsener Urquell
Pott's

p.s.: One of the strangest things I saw when I was in the US was the "4 way stop" btw. My mind literally could not comprehend it the first time I saw it
