Re: Do Americans Overestimate How Great Other Athletes Would be at Soc
all, the USMNT would be way better internationally if they did a better job of embracing the Hispanic population (and thus got embraced by the same) of the Southwest. Discuss. |

Re: Do Americans Overestimate How Great Other Athletes Would be at Soc
The USMNT would be better if they had a coach with actual legit international experience, especially in Europe. While I think Bradley is a good coach, he isn't even in the same region as wenger, SAF, Rkijjard, Mourinho, etc.
That being said, the USMNT will continue to get better with more outfield players playing overseas OR if MLS continues to improve. |

[/ QUOTE ] disagreed. i mentioned in earlier posts why i think we suck nationally. our technical and tactical speed sucks. we dont "see" the game. think lebron or mj or magic in hoops. we dont do that in soccer. why? well, the article outlining britians problems in soccer could easily describe ours. too much organized 11v11 games. too many isolated drills. too little touching the ball. im positive if you gave me a group of 8yr olds i could develop them into one of the best sides in the area by the time they reach 16. i would focus on ball control for about 30min per practice. everyone would constantly be in contact with a ball doing coervers during this time. the rest would be small sided scrimmage. 2v2 up to 5v5 or so. as they got older i would increase the sides. |

i dont see how embracing the hispanic population would help solve the problems i outlined. is that good enough for you?

victor, the hispanic population doesn't play a whole lot of organized 11 v 11. |

Re: Do Americans Overestimate How Great Other Athletes Would be at Soc
so are you saying that there are a bunch of great soccer players that the national system is passing over?
or that there are a bunch of potential great players that would be great if national system developed them? |

Re: Do Americans Overestimate How Great Other Athletes Would be at Soc
victor, i'm suggesting there's a wealth of untapped talent in those populations that need to 1) be encouraged to root for the united states and 2) be encouraged to play somewhat organized ball from time to time and yes, 3) need help taking their individual skills and shaping them into a 11 v 11 format. i know you've seen some incredible skills on youtube and the like, but these kids and their skills aren't gonna ever be more than youtube attractions. there's more to the game than that. |
