Re: ***SSNL LIFE THREAD***
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Do you have some Copags and Paulsons though? [/ QUOTE ] I like KEM better than Copaqs. Although they were better before the company got sold. Paulsons are top notch ofc. [/ QUOTE ] I have Kem and Copag. Right now I like the Copags, but that changes every few months. Paulsons are probably an '08-09 purchase. I have a Bodog chip set that is okay and 2 other sets that are close to casino quality. |

Re: ***SSNL LIFE THREAD***
Since we're talking about essays,
I'm transferring to a better college next semester, and I'm working on my entrance essay. The instructions for the essay are "Share with us more information about yourself, your experiences or any other topic you feel would help us to know you better." So basically, I have a few routes to go. I was a huge slacker in high school, did nothing extracurricular, smoked tons of pot and just got by with like a 2.4. Since then I've been going to a smaller college and I have a 3.2. So should I write about how I've "seen the light, etc"? Something else? I wish the topic was a little more specific. The thing is, I'm super excited to go to this school but I can't really put it in words. If it matters, I'm going for business. This is probably too broad but any ideas would be cool. "Life is a long journey. Everyday I wish I could go back to high school and start over. I was very unmotivated in high school, never looking beyond my four years there. My attitude was always, just get by and go from there. I'm not making excuses, however, because I feel like I have learned a lot from that experience. I feel like the two years since high school are more like ten years, simply because I am such a different person than I was back then. I have become much more motivated, hardworking and disciplined in every aspect of life." This is kinda the path I'm on. |

Re: ***SSNL LIFE THREAD***
The "I was a slacker, but now I realize how important and rewarding hard work can be" line is gold. Helps if there was something specific that made you see the light.
Don't mention pot. Don't mention majoring in business unless required to(better that they think you're going to save the Earth, or at least a few puppies). I own the best college admissions turnaround in history [got into Northwestern University w/o a high school diploma], but you can't do the same unless you join the Navy, have a kid, and get a perfect score on your verbal SAT. |

I simply got by with a minimum of effort, never thinking about the future and what lay in store for me when high school was done. In the years since graduation, I've seen how delicate our lives can be. I've seen friends with bright futures veer off course and lose themselves. I've seen other friends get back on the right track through hard work and dedication. I've grown a lot in the last two years. I'm more focused. I'm more disciplined. I very excited about my future, and am willing to work long and hard to make my dreams a reality. |

Re: ***SSNL LIFE THREAD***
very good revisions. First was way too cliched and used some bad phrases ("just get by and go from there," "very unmotivated," etc.).
