you guys should be fine if you keep cora and somehow get lowrie up.

[/ QUOTE ]

lowrie is a ss that can play 2b, cora is backup 2b/ss

with lugo and pedroia, how do you propose they have 4 middle infielders on the 25 man roster?

lowell is gone soon (old dudes on the 25-man), so he'll need to be replaced. lowrie can probably move there if his bat will play at third. having lugo is unfortunate.

just saying that if you can keep cora as a great glove, it's usually worth it for a high-payroll high-win team for $2mm.

It'll be nice to see the Yankees play teams that aren't the Royals or Devil Rays.

lowrie went deep twice and is crushing the ball since his promotion. time to put cora out to pasture.

[/ QUOTE ]

What do you guys think the longterm plan is for Lowrie? He's already 24, really good, and likely blocked at both of his positions. Cora is due $2M next season and Sox braintrust seems to like him.

[/ QUOTE ]
above average but not great regulars (which we're not sure lowrie is yet) who are years away from arbitration are extreeeemely valuable. i seriously doubt the sox would get fair in-a-vacuum-value from him in trade (unless there's a team with an equivalent player at another position thats blocked), especially bc hes not a toolsy guy.

i want them to keep him in AAA next year and bring him up in 09. its not all that unlikely that one of pedroia or lugo is toast by 09 (lugo much more likely obv). if not the sox have a cheap utility guy slotted to join the stating lineup before he hits arb.

does

below average range, strong arm, but not terribly accurate = 3B? i suppose being stationary more often would improve his accuracy.

i suppose having him on the team, getting some risky 1B on the market and having youks as able to play both psoitions makes it ok to have him there.

lugo is mystifing but i hold out hope he can be serbviceable (even 75% of his pecota projection for next year would be ok w me) at the plate as his defense is soild.

as long as lowrie is a reasonably competant ss he should be able to put up positive UZR numbers at third

mediocre SSs are just so much better at playing infield defense than the average 3B that i dont think any amount of not-having-skills-totally-translate could make lowrie a bad 3b

To be fair, maybe the Yankees played the tough teams in the first half, don't know for sure. Has anyone done an analysis of their schedule?

I'm not saying they've had an easier schedule, I'm just saying they've played one team you could consider average since the AS break, and that's a big reason why they're winning so much.

Their SOS is .501 last I checked.

We'll see how good they really are for the rest of this month. I just checked the schedule and this is what they face: Toronto(3), Cleveland(3), Baltimore(3), Detroit(4), Angels(3), Detroit(4), Red Sox(3), TB(1).

Only 1 AAA game left in August.
