[ QUOTE ]
I'm not real sure where to post this question about equity and pot odds so I'll put it here.

Let's say you're closing the action in a hand. For simplicity's sake say your opponent bets 20BB into a 40BB pot on the river. The pot is now 60BB and you're deciding whether to call or fold getting 3:1 odds. Since you're closing the action, do you include the price of your call in the total pot size when estimating equity? (60BB+20BB=80BB/20BB ==> 4:1 ==> >20% equity = +EV)

[/ QUOTE ]

You would not count your call on the river as part of what you "win" as it is not a bet gained. However, whatever you put in on previous streets (20BB if this is HU all the way) is part of what you "win" as the river action is concerned.

isn't it 60BB-20BB? the pot was 40 before the river and opp. bets 20.

Err, I am missing something here.

Current pot is 40BB, Villain bets 20BB making it a 60BB pot. We must risk 20BB to win 60BB, so it is actually 3:1, correct?

3:1 is 25% equity, you don't include the size of your bet in the call, only the size of the pot in relation to how much you have to call.

yes...then its 3-1...which means you only have to be good 25% of the time.

I was in your shoes after losing 8 buyins other day and when I felt like throwing stuff when I lost I quit for a day and came back refreshed after a 24 hour off period. I was beyond tilted. I came back after my time away with a much clearer head and it has worked wonders so far. I got sucked out on three times today but I didn't even care. I played damn good and thats all that matters.

you clearly need to take a break from poker if you're making some of those plays. the AA is standard, as is the KK, but i think you can easily muck the JJ and i think the KQ hand speaks for itself.
