Trib reports it as an MCL sprain

I'm more worried about Vasher. Everytime I've seen a guy do that he has been out at least a month.

I'm hoping that Briggs is okay, but he might be a couple of weeks.

Are you saying as a Bears fan it would be bad if the Bears steamroll the Lions and Grossman has a big game? Then when the Bears play the Packers the next week at Lambeau Grossman will have a good game under his belt and his confidence back.

[/ QUOTE ]
I'm saying that I'd much, much rather have Griese in to "steamroll the Lions." It'd be much better for the Bears if Griese was starting qb next week and had a boost of confidence and a feeling that he won't be hooked.

I really don't believe "steamrolling the Lions" would boost Rex's confidence that much, anyway. Do you think the boos would subside? It's not like he's only had one game to prove himself. Chicagoans haven't been hasty.

[/ QUOTE ]

I still think Grossman should get a shot in the upcomming Packers game.

I know it's not perfectly accurate, but look it at another way. If Griese looked better in practice, he'd be in there.

[/ QUOTE ]

Not necessarily, it depends on how much better. They've invested a number 1 with Grossman and they want to see that pick pay dividends. Also Griese is older. I'll bet Kurt Warner does better in practice than Matt Lienart as an example of what I'm talking about. Also the Browns cut Charlie Frye after one week when they had invested a 3 instead of Anderson who I think was a 6. I'm fairly certain Anderson looked better in practice too.

[ QUOTE ]
Another point in grossman's favor here is he's not losing the games here, but he's not winning them. In direct contrast to say AZ last year, he's having an ok start when the rest of the team is not performing well.

[/ QUOTE ]

A 45 QB rating and throwing 6 picks and two 2 td passes is not performing OK. Of the 34 QBs that have a rating he's number 33. That's not ok. Still I think he should play at least through the Packers coming up after this week's Lions game. Pulling him now might destroy his confidence. I think Smith pulls him though.

he's throwing some of the picks when down 10 or 14 late in the game trying to make the comeback happen, rather than say in a tied game in the 4th or whatever.

Yeah they are trying to make this a long term thing. At the end of the game Sunday they were talking about how, sure, you can put Griese in now, but it's not a long term thing. It's much better to turn Rex into a good QB while taking a few losses now than to use Griese as a stopgap because then you just have to start all over and all the time spent with Rex is lost.

I'm pretty sure the ship has sailed on Grossman turning into a long-term, franchise quarterback. It's time to start Griese and focus on the future in the offseason.

Griese is a only stopgap, but with Grossman it's a HUGE gap that he's plugging.
