Re: Carnoustie
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Mickelson will miss his second cut at a major in a row...any Mick fans worried? I would be. [/ QUOTE ] No. I don't care enough to look it up but Phil has ALWAYS sucked at the British. I don't get it, he's supposed to be one of those "creative" types whose short game should excel in a venue such as that, but it's by far his worst major. [/ QUOTE ] Doesn't he use his 60 degree for 95% of his shots around the greens? It seems to me like Phil's creativity is overrated. His short game in general isn't overrated, it is among the best in the world for PGA type courses, but it doesn't really play that well here. |

Re: Carnoustie
No. He has great control of trajectory and spin near the green and is very creative. He grew up mastering a shot that is very west coast usa and that influences him to a fault, but his game is way beyond that. That he uses fewer clubs than other short game masters isn't really a knock, and it isn't why he hasn't competed well in the BO.

Re: Carnoustie
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] MONTGOMERIE, Colin +5 - Has tried so many times to win his "national championship." Looks like 2005 was his last real chance. [/ QUOTE ] Didn't actually miss the cut, he is probably (read: most likely) not going to win, but +5 made it for the weekend. [/ QUOTE ] Source? Two sources I've been using (CBSSportsline and golf.com) have the cut at +4. [/ QUOTE ] Well I stand corrected, but the official leaderboard on opengolf.com, which is the official site had the cut on +5 when only a few players, that couldn't move the cut, were left on the course. Turns out they had an error in their logic, as they discounted the amateur who made the cut in the calculation, according to the rules they should not do this. So my source was as good as it gets, but wrong. |

[ QUOTE ]
There are too much expectations for Tiger. He can't be in contention at every major [/ QUOTE ] Why not? Last four majors: 1st, 1st, 2nd, 2nd. |

[/ QUOTE ] well, I know he's having an incredible year, but I think that's a bit early to say that. Still have the PGA left and another WGC event. edit: Not to forget the "playoff" tournaments which will be considered even bigger events than they used to be. |
