Although I do feel I played this hand correctly based on table conditions, I'm not suggesting this is usually the correct way to play. Every situation is different. But what this does is illustrate the effect of implied odds. I knew he had a rag Ace ('knew' meaning I had him on a range, and most of that range was a rag Ace), and that if I hit my broadway he'd give up his stack.

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.50/$1 Blinds - 6 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)

SB: $99.95
BB: $154.90
UTG: $98.50
MP: $85.80
CO: $119.50
Hero (BTN): $98.50

Preflop: Hero is dealt J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (6 Players)
UTG folds, MP calls $1.00, CO folds, Hero calls $1.00, SB calls $0.50, BB checks

Flop: ($4) A 6 K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (4 Players)
SB checks, BB checks, MP bets $4.00, Hero calls $4.00, 2 folds

Turn: ($12) A 6 K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players)
MP checks, Hero bets $8.00, MP calls $8.00

River: ($28) A 6 K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 (2 Players)
MP checks, Hero bets all-in for $85.50, MP calls all-in for $72.80
Uncalled bet of $12.70 returned to Hero

Pot Size: $173.60 ($3 Rake)

MP had A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (a pair of Aces) and LOST (-$85.80)
Hero had J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (a straight, Ace high) and WON (+$84.80)

Edit: I also felt that most of the time he was checking the turn unimproved.

I'm not sure whether this forum is actually needed. This game is so easy.

ugh, something horrible happened.

So I played like a 3 hour NL session. Which I found mostly boring, and when it wasnt boring because I had an actual decision, it was total panic because I suck so bad at NL Im clueless when faced with a decision. So after I finish my session, I take a piss break and decide to play some limit cuz there were some good tables going. I felt so, well....limited.

I think I might be liking NL better even tho I don't like NL

Your river bet is highly exploitable. Weather or not your opponents will exploit it is another question...

Personally if I'm you I'm either check-raising the flop or b3b.

It has been said that no-limit poker is an hour of absolute boredom followed by 3 minutes of sheer terror.

But if you find yourself bored during the downtimes and lost during the uptimes, play a little game during the downtime. See if you can guess each person's hand, and what there next action will be. I do this all the time, especially when I first sit down.
