problem with Mozilla FireFox....

links dont work when i click on them if they are not already on a wesbite. meaning if i clink a link on say 2+2, it will open in another tab. but if i click on a link in say an instant message or when i try to deposit money onto stars or something i am told that the web browser is unable to be launched. can anyone help me here?
