This is very true but this is also the way the Red Sox handled another pitcher that came up with Papelbon ,Craig Hansen, who was also a big right handed flame thrower who needed his slider to get players out. Granted Hansen was already a reliever but he threw harder than Joba which made Red Sox fans more in love with him than Papelbon at the time b/c Hansen seemed to be a pure bread closer until someone took a 3/4 swing at a Hansen heater for 400 feet and the kid realized he couldn't just blow smoke by MLB hitters or get them out w/o a developed pro slider. This is why he is back in the minors this year.

they will probably do one of the following:

1) DH Giambi perma with Andy/Betemit platooning at first and play some combo of the 4 outfielders every day
2) Play Giambi at 1B, DH Damon most days rotating him into the OF occasionally

How about Giambi DHing with Damon at 1B? I'd rather see that than the other way around. I just hope Joe plays Giambi every day. The Yanks are running good HR wise right now but I think they still need that one more power bat in the middle of the lineup.

Sounds like Damon wants a trade:

"As a player, you always want to know what your role is and what's happening," Damon said. "If I'm still out there on the margin, especially with Jason [Giambi] coming back. Anything's possible. I know a lot of teams are interested. With Jason coming back and a number of outfielders going down, the Yankees could probably get a better player now than what they probably got offered July 31."

And I think I'd take Duncan over Damon any day. Damon's production has been horrible.

In a conversation with The Post before batting practice, Damon said he wanted his good friend Giambi back soon. But he's curious about what that means for his future.

"Yeah, I do wonder," he said. "We'll just have to see how everything plays out.
"I don't know what my role is going to be after that, but there still could be [trade] activity."

Damon seems stung that the Yankees reportedly shopped him. Asked flat out after the game if he wanted a trade, he told reporters, "No."

"I really like the way this team is improving," he added. "We're playing really well.

"I just know there were some teams that were possibly interested in me before, but obviously it's a lot tougher to trade someone this time of year.

Why would we trade Damon? Just bench him. Unless this is another one of those situations where Joe Torre cannot possibly be trusted to use a player correctly so Cashman has to force him off the team, like Williams and now Proctor.

and since he still insists on batting Damon leadoff, I think it is. Still, Damon can theoretically play all the outfield positions and 1st base, and he's not going to hit .250 forever.
