How about two or three different "sets" of titles?

Keep the original, addict, old hand, pooh-bah, etc.

Allow users to pick a new set of titles still based on post count, like the Punch Out one or maybe an inside joke one like SomethingClever suggested.

I am sure vB has some sort of mod to handle this. This gives users a little bit more freedom while not going all out and letting everyone pick a title.

I say keep mod set titles as well.

Taking from the ideas I liked, may I propose this setup:

0 railbird
10 stranger
25 newbie
50 player
100 member
250 enthusiast
500 addict
1000 grinder
2000 veteran
4000 *various
10000 **custom

* at 4000 posts the poster would get the title "Pooh-Bah", unless, that is, if they have made over 50% (too high? 35%? 40%) of their posts in a certain area of 2+2. With the majority of their posts in these sections they will get the following instead of Pooh-Bah:

community: railtard
limit strat: poo flinger
NL strat: bold and aggressive
STT strat: ROI obsessed
MTT strat: lol donkaments

** at 10,000 posts any user would get the ability to set their own custom title.

I think this has many advantages, including a nice progression given the higher # of 2+2 posts in general since the titles were originally set up, a way to pick out the BBVtards and OOTtards from the serious strat posters, and a cool reward for the true nutbags.

$0.02

I actually think something similar to this would be pretty cool.

Not that I really care, I guess, since I'll never reach any of the higher levels.

LOL, not bad. Rocky should be somewhere in there though.

Good point. I've edited a few more into the original, including Rocky.

You forgot Ash.

I know. I woke up in the middle of the night, shouting "I FORGOT ASH" and then ran downstairs, and found this

Teh Sandwich Artist Formerly Known As AngryCola,

I think given the "creativity level" of some folks on this site, allowing people to customize their titles is a bad idea. They already have the Loc: field as it is. Also, undertitles being a carrot you can dangle to reward good posters is a somewhat valuable tool to have.

[/ QUOTE ]

Loc should actually be Loc based on the poster's IP.

Come on, this makes sense, what makes you think 2p2 would implement it?

It is nice to have this field be a place for official designations, like technologic "2006 WSOP ME Final Tabler" or Matt Flynn "Co-Author of PNL."

The vast majority, of course, are monikers earned in the various forums, but that's fun, and the real value there is that they were assigned, not chosen.

are post counts being reset as well?

[/ QUOTE ]

no, but the 50-100 posts everyone makes about how much they hate the new software will disappear from the post counts after they switch back to the old software.
