New York Doll, about Arthur "Killer" Kane and the New York Dolls, is on TMC. Good, but depressing, documentary I just saw today.

All,

Wow, after My Super Ex-Girlfriend, I didn't think I'd find anything worse this week.

But last night, I recorded All In. Hmmmm, I remember when Dominique Swain was heralded as a talented young actress to watch. Well, now she stars in All In.

This movie is completely unwatchable. I managed about 10 minutes before I started fast forwarding. It took about 20 minutes to watch the whole thing and keep track of all three storylines:

1 - Her in med school and a scandal there
2 - Her relationship w/ father
3 - Her run at poker riches

Well, the poker scenes are all ridiculously retarded and usually either crazy bluffs or total cold deck hands. I would say approximately 9 bazillion times less realistic than Rounders.

The best part is the team assembled. One guy is there as the memory expert. He then gives hand details to the math guy to analyze. Another guy focuses on collecting tells. One of the girls focuses on psych techniques to get inside people's heads. One girl raises capital! And then the star of the team plays because she has the "feel" for the game. Put that all together and you can take down any game.

This does not quite capture how bad this movie was. Like I said, I watched the whole thing (basically the poker parts) in about 20 minutes. I challenge anyone to actually watch the whole thing start to finish.

Oh, one of the chicks is really hot.

I liked The Weatherman a lot.

It was funny seeing so many mentions of this. I just met the girl who plays the beer chick in the St. Paulie Girl outfit whose part consists of vigorously f'ing Nicholas Cage. She was very funny about it, "Yeah, you pay your nine bucks and it's rated R, you want to see somebody's [censored]. That was my job." Cool girl.

El D,
The Illusionist & The Prestige are both very good movies, though I liked the latter a bit more. Enjoy!

Best movie i have been to thus far in 07 is "The Lives of Others." It's about a East German Stasi policeman in the late 70's early 80's trying to dig up dirt on a play write and his actress girlfriend for a jealous party member. It has like a 95/97 or something on rotten tomatoes.

Not sure if it's out on video yet.

The Prestige was my favorite movie of 2006. Obviously a little unrealistic, but it's a movie. So if you can get past that, it's awesome.

ED,
The Prestige was one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a long time. Rented it for a weekend, watched it Saturday, read some stuff online about it, then watched it again Sunday morning. I enjoyed it even more the second time.

The Illusionist was meh. I saw it after The Prestige, which may have influenced my opinion. It's almost impossible not to compare the two and most people seem to have a very strong preference for one over the other. I'm pretty sure I'm unlikely to be friends with someone who strongly preferred The Illusionist - so keep that in mind when you're watching.

El D,

Illusionist and Prestige are both very good.

All the King's Men - assuming that it's the new Sean Penn version and not the classic Broderick Crawford version, you probably want to skip it. Mediocre to the core.
