Barry: I think your overall analysis of LSU is pretty good. It will be hard to beat all those teams (VT, Auburn and UF). Plus in the always touch SEC the chance of an upset is ever present.

You are right -- the front seven will be sick, and the secondary will be more than adequate. Flynn is good -- so good I remember the mood around Baton Rouge (when I lived there) being that he was better than Russell. This is obv wrong, but I think Flynn is the real deal, and will very likely be carrying a clipboard while wearing shoulderpads on Sundays for years to come (he could be a 3rd to 6th round pick). I think he is very much up to the task.

alright, let's end the ESPN argument (which I think we all agree that ESPN blows) and give our own analysis of the great game of college football.

These are all my opinions, so I'm not stating as fact. Feel free to chime in if you disagree.

LSU underperformed last year. Their talent was right their with Florida, yet they lost 2 games. Part of that was certainly a tough schedule with a lot of SEC road games. Now they may have a little less talent on the offensive side of the ball (Russell and Bowe), but Flynn can certainly suffice as a college QB that can win with the type of talent LSU has. He's helped by the fact that he will play his tougher games in front of a friendly crowd.

Nebraska appears to be ready to make the leap. They should dominate the Big 12 North. Their only hurdle in the north should be a road game (most likely at night) against Mizzou. Lots of people are high on Mizzou, but I expect them to give us their usual choke job. Nebraska has better talent at every position other than Tight End. For the past few years, the Corn has quietly strung together some excellent recruiting classes. Callahan has accomplished his first goal which was a complete overhaul of the talent in the program. Now he has to get it done during the game. There's no reason why the Huskers shouldn't be a Top 15 team this year.

I'm expecting big improvement from Florida St. this year. The change in asst. coaches (esp. off. coordinator) should do wonders for this team. If they can get a QB that gets some confidence and gets in a rhythm, they should have no problem making the ACC title game. The talent is already there. They have no excuses. I'm looking for a solid win to open at Clemson to start the season. I'm laying 2.5 with the 'Noles. I think Clemson will really struggle to do anything on offense with a new QB and 3 new starters on the OL. Clemson will not be able to throw on the FSU secondary. This should allow 8 in the box. It should resemble last year's Clemson/Va Tech game that the Hokies completely dominated for 60 minutes.

interesting to see how the noles do without Buster Davis back there. I think they should be fine. Noles never seem to have a problem finding good LBers. Chuck Amato back can't hurt there though they do lose Kevin Steele who was a good one.

Mom- LSU underperformed last year because of their coach. Take our game, for instance. No way should Auburn have been able to beat LSU last year with our lack of a passing game. As long as Miles is there, they are likely going to lose some they shouldn't. I will never forget him trying to call timeout after an interception in the last minute against Tennessee in 2005 (this was before the rule where the clock started between possessions.) His asst. coach had to restrain him to keep him from running on the field to call the TO. How could you not know the clock stopped between possessions if you've made it to that level as a coach? It's baffling.

Anyway...I think the SEC is going to be incredible this year. There doesn't seem to be one runaway team (sorry LSU) and the bottom teams are looking better than usualy. I even think Ole Miss will pull an upset or two this year. I think it's going to be crazy and you could have a 6-2 vs 5-3 matchup in the SECCG.

His ingame coaching was always a ? at Okie St. too. Their fans seemed to be glad to get rid of him, so this news doesn't come as a surprise. Saw a survey of former players rating their old coaches. Miles did very poorly.

the SEC is ridiculous this year

For instance,
I think this might be the best Vandy team in my lifetime and they'll still finish 6th in their division according to my projections.

Both divisions have 4 teams that could win. 8 of the best 30 or so teams are in the SEC IMO.

I also like the Pac10 and BigXII south alot

I don't think that there really are any loser conferences this year except the BigXII North. The Big11Ten really increased its depth as did the BigEast with South Florida stepping up. The ACC should be better with FSU, Miami, and V Tech being stronger as the standard bearers.

by the way, with the ACC, I see North Carolina being a football power in about 5 years for a long time to come.

another aside, I love South Carolina playing North Carolina and Clemson out of conference....great for fans of college football.

Hats off to the Pac10 for scheduling awesome games for fans again. Boo to the BigEast for mainly putting awful cream-puff schedules together.

Only FSU still has a really bad/lack of depth OL, not to mention two very poor QBs. Defenses will really slam the box against them and force DW or XL to throw and feast on that poor OL either way. WR is pretty thin although Carr is supposed to be much better than just jumping this year with Jimbo fixing his route running, catching, etc. Jimbo always had the best talent at LSU & he certainly doesn't have it at FSU right now.

Obviously they have a good defense but they had an even better one last year and didn't go anywhere.

That said, I expect them to make the ACCCG because the ACC blows.

yeah, wtf, that NU dynasty is #1/#2. It has the best team of all time.

[/ QUOTE ]

did you see the top 4????
There are definitely legit arguments and I can see reasonable people disagreeing on this very much

[/ QUOTE ]

How can any rational and logical person consider '03 - '05 usc even remotely close to '93 - '97 Nebraska?

USC had 1 NC during their run, NU had 3 during theirs (Which by the way, '03 - '05 USC is the only team in the history of sports in the usa to be considered a dynasty despite winning just one title). Each team played in another NC title game, and the only thing which kept NU from the '96 title game was the drunken driving arrest of WLB Terrell Farley, which resulted in him getting booted off the team before the Big 12 Championship Game.

Nebraska's record from 1993 to 1997 was 60-3, and included the greatest team in the history of cfb.

Army won titles when players didn't even have facemasks (was the forward pass even legal then? Serious question.).

The only argument Miami has is with the '70 - '71 Huskers.

I'll listen to any intelligent arguments about OU.
