I'm not a sports bettor, but I have a question.

I found this on the Celtics section of Sons of Sam Horn (the Red Sox board):

Some Vegas guy was on ESPN Radio today--said that prior to the last 2 seasons, games involving this ref went OVER the Vegas O/U 44% of the time. In the last 2 years, which are when the accusations allege things were going on, his games went OVER 57% of the time and he was making a lot more foul calls than he ever had previously. Eleven times his games had point spread swings of more than 2 points, 7 times the team getting the swing won.

Now I'm well aware this could be inaccurate or entirely untrue, but it doesn't change my question.

How seriously do sports bettors follow referee patterns like this? Is this pattern shown by Donaghy really egregious? If this was really seven two point swings followed by seven covers, then how obvious is that? I can't imagine gangsters show much savvy or restraint in how heavy they bet or how well they spread it around.

At what point does something stink in Denmark? Was there any talk about the fix being in before the news broke?

I've been told by sports bettors that the NFL is so tough because the final score is so affected by officiating, and that is why some people stick to college football. No sport's outcome or score is more affected by officiating than the NBA. How significant are officials in handicapping?

I don't know what this is. Or what purpose it may serve.

Then let me enlighten you. That's a fake pic from about 4-5 years ago featuring the best Swedish female track&fielders at the time. Media was all over it and the athletes of course got pissed.

Hey guys, I want your opinion on a drunk bet I made with a friend. He's a huge Yankee homer, and we made a bet on who would get more AL MVP votes: Guerrero or Jeter, with me getting Guerrero. Bet was made during all-star break. How confident should I be that I'm going to win this bet, and what percentage should I allow him to buy-out at if he wanted too?
