Re: South Park starts up again tonight 10/3
Personally I think the last 5-6 seasons have been the best of the entire series. I may be in the minority but I find the social commentary & satire to be by far the best parts of the show.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree with the satire being the best part, but there was plenty of that in the early seasons as well. Rainforest Shmainforest, Gnomes, Death, Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride, and many more. Hell, the second episode, Volcano, satirized gun laws, and let's not forget the movie... |

Re: South Park starts up again tonight 10/3
I've been watching South Park for pretty much as long as I can remember. Last season was solid, but I do think this season is definitely weaker than previous seasons and while this last episode had it's moments, I don't see how anybody could think it was great. The first 15 minutes or so were really bad, but it picked up from there and had a good finish.
Personally, my favorite episode is the first Towelie episode (the second one was really weak), followed by the episode where the boys go to John Edwards show to talk to Kenny on the other side. There have been very few weak episodes overall in south park, imo anyways. I agree with whoever said that South Park was at it's best consistently when the stories focused on the boys and the overall town of South Park rather than trying to incorporate celebrities and pop culture, although there have been some awesome episodes when they do this, but there have been a lot of mediocre episodes as well. |

Re: South Park starts up again tonight 10/3
I agree with Kos's general view on South Park.
Clayton, I disagree with your post. There best episodes are ones where they manage to be relevant and absurd at the same time. Not pure absurdity. Biggest Douche in The Universe, Ladder to Heaven, Child Abduction is not Funny, etc. The Hate Crime episode is very different from the Jesse Jackson one imo. A better example of reused jokes/plots are stuff like Night of the Living Homeless and Ginger Kids. Catalyst posted this in an earlier thread, but basically I have such high expectations for every new episode of South Park that I'm crushed by good to mediocre episodes. |

I'm amazed that so many people like the old episodes more than the last few seasons. I've been watching the show regularly since like Season 5, and some of the best eps have come in the last two years. Episodes like "The Succubus" and the Korn Halloween special were very weak, especially when you compare them to, say, the "I broke the dam" episode, or Douche and Turd, or some of the other excellent social commentary eps we've seen lately. I'm a diehard SP fan, and I'm thrilled with the direction the show has gone the last few years (with the exception of last night, though I think that's a fluke). [/ QUOTE ] interesting... fwiw i would agree that i broke the dam was a standout episode, dont agree with your opinions on the other 3 mentioned tho. maybe i am a minority after all, i had assumed most old school sp watchers would just agree with me. but fair enough |

I must have missed something. What exactly did last Wed's episode have to do with King Kong?
