"Each new hour holds new chances for new beginnings. The horizon leans forward, offering you space to place new steps of change" Heard on LT Bukems awesome D&B album Logical Progression. Always think of it when I'm having difficulty dealing with something in the past.

"They can do what they like to you but they can't kill you." Source is my dad. I'd joined the navy and we were doing some exercises on the moors and it was agony but that was cool - all I had to do was keep going until I passed out or whatever, they couldn't kill me. Good for that little bit extra resolve when I need it even though it's hard sometimes thinking of who it is that is doing this to me other than myself....

"The world moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you'll miss it." Source is that Bukem album again. Good for when I'm stressed with a lot on. You're far more productive when you pause and assess and plan than if you just keep going trying to do everything haphazaradly.

On a more serious note, this one really seems to apply to poker and life in general.

Sitting a'top the Rio Hotel and Casino one night last summer, a thousand feet vertically removed from the intensity of the WSOP, sipping cocktails, looking out over the vast, georgeous, desert valley which was lit up with commercial development for miles only to stop at the indistinguishable mountains; my friend turned to me and said, "we don't matter."

Pessimistic? Sure. But that quote really stuck with me and has helped keep me in check when I find myself taking life a little too seriously.

FakeKramer,

Similar pessimistic quotes are great for helping me stay out of the trap of stress. I hate stressing and in general I can control it quite well by just remembering that it doesn't do any good. On the occasions I start to slip though, I think of similar quotes.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"
- Jesus, also known as the Golden Rule and similar sayings found in every major religion. Definitely one I try to live my life by.

I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet... which means it probably has and I just missed it. It's interesting how different the many translations can be... my favorite version is one that was actually misquoted a bit by a drunk friend:

"Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it well; for there is no work, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, nor love in the grave, whither thou goest."

Ecclesiastes 9:10
