i am as pumped about joba/edwar/hughes arriving on the big team as anyone, but i cant stop thinking that cashman might have missed a relatively cheap upgrade for the bullpen in a season where playoffs/no playoffs will likely come down to a very small margin... I guess its that he went to boston and they have a pretty sick pen now which is making this bother me so much.

re Betemit, yeah i don't know where i got 27. my bad.
re Gagne, we could have had him for just Melky, but why??? you don't let go of your only capable CF for an arm rental that's far from a sure thing. plus gagne could get hurt. yeah, bosox got three relievers with era around 2.0. that sounds very good (and very scary). but the yankees are better off without that. i think the lack of gagne move means cashman is not worried about boston. the WC is ours.

[/ QUOTE ] 'might have' here doesn't mean eric gagne - it means some other possibly available reliever. trading farnsworth for wickman would've been sweet. the clear answer is that we figure to score at least 15 runs a game at home now so it won't matter.

The best part of the Betemit trade is that he's 5-10 in his career in the postseason with 1 HR. I think Joe will bench non-clutch A-Rod in the postseason for Betemit. I mean look at the guy, in his 3 years in the big leagues he's made the postseason all 3 times. He clearly knows how to win.
My only concern is that he only has 5 career stolen bases. I hate guys that clog up the basepaths.
